Tagged: BTRFS, subs, subvolumes
Hello everybody,
I’m very new with antiX, just practised the installation onto my old VAIO laptop a few times, making lots of mistakes — learning by doing.
I would like to install antiX onto BTRFS, first creating some subvolumes like @, @home, @opt, @.snapshots — the aim is to let the system do snapshots by itself with snapper like openSUSE does. My laptop is an old one, so I tried a lot of Linux distributions — antiX it is, fast, easy to administrate and my hard disc stays cool.
If there would be a chance to install it onto BTRFS, that would be nice. I tried it with the graphical installer and the cli-installer too, I even can make BTRFS partitions, but it will overwrite the subs, letting BTRFS be useless for snapshots.
Please if you can give me an idea how to solve this problem, I would be very glad. Thanks a lot, greetings from a newbe.
Strawberry fields forever!
Unfortunately, you will have to give up. antiX/MX installer does not contemplate btrfs subvolume installation/creation (but installation on normal btrfs partion works).
Other distros use a tool created by others as installation software, or have a big team that can dedicate more time to update their installation software, or have someone getting payed to add these kind of options to their installer.
antiX/MX are a very small team of developers that also have their life to manage, so some things don’t move as fast here.

You could try installing using a different installer and see if it works properly with antiX, though I am not sure how well it can go.
