      Hi,
how to install a full antix desktop from a core install?
is there a magic sudo apt install antix-desktop ?

I succeeded to install antix from the core iso burned on a CDrom (no boot from usb). I also failed to install a full antix desktop from the full iso burned on dvd.

      thank you

I tried to reinstall from full-antix dvd (too hard to install xorg, lightdm, desktop-*** and to make it work by hand).
The graphic install lead to a grub install error (on a compaq presario 2100, 32 bits, 640 Mb ram, hdd 40 Gb ). May be it would be easier to fix the grub error than to install a desktop environement by hand.

Did you try running the Boot repair from the CD? It’s on the System menu.

You can try to use the live-dvd , on live go to
Control-Centre > Maintenance > Boot Repair > Repair Grub configuration

            for repairing grub.

            Ups, like BobC already mentioned.

                Thanks a lot.
This is great to see an old laptop starting so fast.

                  Thank you,
I reinstall from scratch with the same dvd, I took care this time to install grub on the / partition and not on another one (fd …?)

I’m sticking my nose in a subject I know nothing about- I’ve never tried any other antiX version other than “full”:
you probably may have to need to install other stuff, it the above command does not do that for you like, for example:
                    – synaptic (GUI package manager)
                    – firefox-esr and badwolf ( web browsers)
                    – libreoffice (Office suite)
                    – connman and cmst (Network connection mananager and one of it’s GUIs)
                    – mpv (mediaplayer)
                    – xmms (audio player)
                    – spacefm (file manager)
                    etc…
Doing that will be simpler with synaptic installer

                    P.

                      > I reinstall from scratch with the same dvd

Good to hear. That was the most reasonable approach toward achieving the goal.

you probably may have to need to install other stuff

“other stuff” amounts to HUNDREDS of packages.
A while ago I made a list when someone inquired for antiX 17
                      https://gitlab.com/skidoo/odds-n-ends
but I don’t recall redoing the exercise for antiX 19.
Typing the howto steps here in case someone else wants to have a play

Each antiX ISO contains a file /usr/share/antiX/installed-packages.txt
If working from an antiX Full system
                      1) cp /usr/share/antiX/installed-packages.txt /tmp/FULL.txt
                      2) retrieve ISOs for core, base editions
                      3) mount the ISOs and extract copies of their installed-packages.txt
                      4) for each of the FULL // BASE // CORE files:

                      # “edit in place”, remove space until end of line (leaves just first column, aka pkgname)
                      sed -i ‘s/ .*//g’ thefile

                      # “sort, in place” the lines within the file (in preparation for using “comm”)
                      sort -u thefile -o thefile

                      # use the “comm” utility to create (several passes) full_vs_base_vs_core diff lists
                      comm -23 BASE.txt CORE.txt >> inBASE_notIN_CORE.txt
                      comm -23 FULL.txt BASE.txt >> inFULL_notIN_BASE.txt
                      comm -12 FULL.txt BASE.txt >> inBASE_notIN_FULL.txt
( ^— maybe not necessary info for this exercise, but interesting to discover the extra goodies which are exclusive to base edition)

The lists are only handy for quick reference. Anyone attempting to use them as “install manifests”, package lists toward attempting to uppygrade in place from core edition… would encounter several pitfalls. For instance, pre-existing presence of the antixcc-base (control centre) package may conflict//block installation of the antixcc-full package. Also, for various packages, the user would be presented with quite a few cryptic(?) debconf -related questions.

During upgrading, I had to upgrade and install some locales (LO, firefox)and indicate where to “put” grub… wrong answer. Now grub is broken and tadaa:
                        "symbol 'grub_calloc' not found
Boot from live dvd and try to fix

                        Finally grub is back

Well done, hopefully you are now ready to enjoy antiX.

                            Thank you,
Things look fine now. The install worked like a charm on my thinkpad R50e, it was more difficult for this colleague’s compaq presario 2100 with some hardware issue (the laptop, not the colleague).
