More updates: Nothing seemed to work so I cheated a bit. I used an external adapter to hook the ssd and use it to install antix from another computer. Which seemed to work, and it did.
But when I placed the ssd back to the laptop the grub was messed up. When grub was booting it gave me this “error: unknown filesystem” “Entering rescue mode” “Grub rescue>”
I looked this up on google and tried “ls” “ls (hd0,msdos1)” and every other hdx, msdosx options I had with the same result “unknown filesystem”

Why is this so hard to do? Is there some grub repair cd or something? It worked some minutes ago I dont understand. There has to be a way to fix the grub, it shouldnt be that hard right?

        hi
usually this kind of error happens to me when I install Antix on an EFI system, and then I try to boot it on a legacy one, or vice versa (the other way around)

Boot repair from within a live usb should fix it right? It should recognise the laptop as legacy and fix the grub, at least in theory I guess
I’ll let everyone know if this fixes the issue in a couple of hours, this will take long. But this probably helps some people with the same problem

            Not sure.
It depends on how the other pc handled your HD.

            Example:
in case you told the “other pc” to use all the hd, (if it is an efi one) antiX created an efi partition where it is written grub. In the legacy hd this partition doesn’t exist.

You can try: my fear is that after 3 min the Boot Repair program will write to you something like “failed”.

In that case, you have to do the install on the hd using another pc, this time a legacy one.

I just read that I can do a reinstall from the live usb. So I’ll probably first try to boot from live usb in the old laptop, then format the antix partition on the hd, then install antix. That sounds promising.
If this for some reason doesnt work. I’ll try using an old Athlon classic desktop and an external enclousure as you said 🙂
And if that doesnt work I’ll do the boot repair

                Yes, I agree
Please be sure that the antiX install program TAKES THE ENTIRE HD: in that case you’ll be sure that all partitions will be done exactly how your (old) laptop needs for a correct install.

In case you have data, please backup it.

In case you want to dedicate only a partition, in order to save another O.S. (ex: Windows), please let me know, because you need some more advice.

@irina60 – you can also try the procedures indicated here: https://askubuntu.com/questions/360543/convert-from-efi-to-bios-boot-mode

Booting with a live USB then with the boot repair tool, Install grub to MBR has worked for me many times. If an esp/efi
partition is present it will be ignored, but can be a nuisance later as it adds to the partition count, remove it with
                    gparted if wished for.

Okay live usb did not work. Screen only displayed “press F1 for help” and nothing else, and it froze. I’m now using an old Athlon classic (1000mhz) desktop and an external usb enclosure with the laptops ssd to make the instalation. I formated the ext4 root partition (21gb) and created ext4 home partition (64gb). It is installing fine at the moment, but it is still at 14% so it is soon to tell if it will work.
                      I’ll keep everyone updated 🙂

So uhm, the athlon desktop decided to stopped working after the first install and did not solved the grub error. The core 2 duo I did the first instalation which caused the first grub error only boots the iso in virtual mode 1280×1024 which would be fine but if I try to install it to a usb it gives me a “failed to prepare required partitions” when trying to format root. And it wont go pass trying to format swap. I tried formating the usb, using other usbs, other pcs, other formating tools and software but nothing works. This is starting to be a little of a headache not gonna lie. I used super grub2 disk which only showed me windows 7s boot option. Also tried rescatux (from same website) but it got into an infinite loop and wouldnt boot (I tried both 0.74 and 0.73 with same result).
Im starting to run out of ideas guys. I dont know why this old laptop wont accept antix. Maybe due to screen resolution or refresh rate idk really. I only have 3 options left at this point: Use a virtual machine to run the iso and install to usb then (idk if possible), keep looking for help everywhere, unetbootin???

Did you try the sub-700mb ISO on a CD-R? I went through most of what you are trying last year and that’s what finally worked. I’d go with the antiX net install on a CD, see if you get anywhere.

If you need a full installation disk instead of net install, I’ve got a 694mb antiX 19 respin ISO that I used last year still sitting in a Mega.nz download folder: https://www.antixforum.com/forums/topic/antix-libre-respin/page/2/#post-55939

You could try to install that, and if it works then try to upgrade to antiX 21.

I have tried core and net but on dvds and usb. I’ll net with CD (which would be cool if it worked because I could build up from there and use less ram I think).
Can you install antix 19 and upgrade to 21 from within 19? That would be nice thanks ^^

Sorry, Irina, but no. antiX 19 is based on Debian 10, and antiX 21 is based on Debian 11, completely different “basis”… But antiX 19.5 came out even later than antiX 21 and still has quite some support time left…

Edit: I forgot to suggest one thing – you installed antiX to an external drive and made it work that way on the computer you wanted, right? Did you try to install from there to your computer’s hard drive? The command is:
                              sudo minstall

But I don’t know if it runs from an installed system…
                              P.

I managed to install antix 21 in an usb stick. I used that to try to fix boot with no results. Neither sudo update-grub nor sudo grub-install /dev/sda worked. Chroot recognises antix 21 in sda3 and windows 7 in sda1. And the antix usb install is recognised in sdb1. But in grub rescue nothing is recognised.
I will try sudo minstall as you suggested and come with news in a moment. But if that doesnt work I’ll do the net CD

sudo minstall doesnt work. It gives me this error: du: cant access /live/aufs/boot because of a file missing in directory/n I dont know what that means but maybe the installer can be reinstalled, not sure tho
I’ll try other suggestions tomorrow. Thanks for your help guys. If someone has more suggestions I will be pleased to hear it 🙂
