Great, we mark it solved. Please send an
      inxi -zv7
      from the installed system.

        CONGRATULATIONS :-)))))

Hope the system will update OK.

I have an install to do in a day or so, will see if the old ext2 filesystem is
        preselected.

OT, If you are interested and somewhere I could find a way to send a package to for
reasonable cost I have an Athlon 3000 in a MOBO you can have, much faster than the
        classic 1000.
Maybe also some DDR1 RAM and an XFX PV-T44A-WANG NVIDIA GeForce 6200 256 MB AGP.
That is the rare silent card. Alternative a Medion GE Force -8X TI4200 cooled by a tiny fan.
the board needs at least one power input capacitor replacing as definitely bulged,
others I would measure and replace if needed. Probable.
I probably have fitting low esr capacitor in my parts box,
replacement is usualy easy peasy few minutes fo me, I have practice :-).
Then do an assembled test. Hope I have some DDR1 Memory still, PSU no problem I have a tested unit.
Subject of course to my full test result being OK, means must run for a coouple of days and boot many
        times.
interest or not PM on that please.

Cpu usage and temps are because I did this command while it was still updating and upgrading. Now Im wondering if kernel 5.x will work but thats for another day 🙂

          @ModdIt that sounds interesting ^^

Now wondering if kernel 5.x will work.

If the kernel you have now is
ok, that is you are having no issues I would suggest to keep as is.
The newer kernel is intended for somewhat newer hardware and may not
have the required drivers for your device.

If you really must, please try after your next important step.

Making a system snapshot from your now updated system and confirming
the generated ISO will boot live. Saves a lot of frustration at times.

I will totally do that now, actually almost forgot to do that.
Also I dont know how to send private messages.
Im not worring about a more recent kernel for now really 🙂

For PM there is a symbol below the register button on the forum main page, I can PM you tomorrow
so you will probably find how to use easier. Time for sleep now.

Forgotten to make a backup keep it separate and confirmed working is really common.

SSD unlike Harddisk usualy gives no warning signs, just goes dead.
They are pretty reliable but early failure can happen, mostly though it is point of failure in front
of the computer rather than hardware.
I learned the hard way and always remind users I support to make backups.

Where I have a few concerns is,
on your installed system now your graphic is using the vesa driver, whereas on the system installed to usb before the drivers loaded were ati,mach64
Most likely you will have the poorer results with the vesa driver.
Did you choose any options during the live boot like safe graphical mode ?

Uhm I didnt choose anything else but install to the whole drive, which the default option. During boot most of the time I chose the default too, but sometimes it would post no video idk why so I chose failsafe. It was only a couple of times but I did install with the default boot and install method.
Can I change the driver manually?

We can look why it uses vesa instead and probably we can change it, if you are still in the mood for.
Might already on your live stick something got blacklisted and/or a /etc/X11/xorg.conf got created,
which forces now the vesa driver.

On your on ssd drive installed system, is there a /etc/X11/xorg.conf ?
Is there anything relevant blacklisted in /etc/modprobe.d or /usr/lib/modprobe.d/ ?

Im sending (hopefully) some images of the content of those files. Lets see if images go through this time.
Also the pcmicia wifi card is detected fine but the wifi itself is almost non existent, I’d like to fix that too if possible

There is a xorg.conf file in etc/X11, this is what its inside:
                            Section “Device”
                            Identifier “Device0”
                            Driver “vesa”
                            EndSection

                            This is whats inside usr/lib/modprobe.d
                            -aliases.conf
                            -fbdev-blacklist.conf
And this is whats inside etc/modprobe.d
                            -amd64-microcode-blacklist.conf
                            -ath9k_htc.conf
                            -broadcom-sta-dkms.conf
                            -dkms.conf
                            -hang-on-shutdown.conf
                            -i915-power-saving.conf
                            -intel-microcode-blacklist.conf
                            -iwlwifi-no-blink.conf
                            -live-blacklist.conf
                            -pc-speaker.conf

Also the pcmcia wifi card is recognised but it barely works and the apt update command gives me trouble if I dont have wired connection. Id like to fix that too if possible

These are pictures from the live-stick, yes ?
If this is not the case, it is puzzling why there is a -live-blacklist.conf in /etc/modprobe.d

Seems like there is still some work to do.I’m really sorry that the forum software annoys you so much, we all have our problems with it now and then.

That is not the live stick, this is the ssd installation itself. It is puzzling not gonna lie but it maybe due to the way the laptop made me do the installation (which is a weird way to make an installation tbh lol, this laptop is weird)
Im still making the snapshot btw, it is taking a hooooot minute

                                  Hi Irina060
It may be worthwhile for you to read through below thread, even on your rather old device links2 browser should be pretty responsive
especialy in text mode, not sure what happens in the graphical mode with so little RAM available..

We are all still exploring best usage so the thread is pretty active, and in places maybe a bit confused.
