Hello everyone I’m new to Linux and decided to try AntiX (I used to sit on Manjaro XFCE). Used automatic disk partitioning and at the end of the installation gave an error related to GRUB: “GRUB installation failed. You can reboot to the live medium and use the GRUB Rescue menu to repair the installation.”

Prior to running the installer, if you had not performed “sudo apt update” and “sudo dist-upgrade” “sudo apt dist-upgrade”, you may have run into the same installer bug described in the 2wks ago topic: https://www.antixforum.com/forums/topic/antix-core-cli-installer-separate-home/

Hi, the commands should have been ‘sudo apt update’ followed by ‘sudo apt dist-upgrade’.

                Two suggestions what to try:
IGNORE THIS ONE: 1) Which version of the ISO did you download (what is the name of the ISO file)?
If it contains ‘net’ or ‘core’, then run the bellow command that includes ‘install’:
sudo apt update && sudo apt install cli-installer-antix
Mentioned in the thread with the installer issue (referred by @skidoo) by anticapitalista.
If the cli-installer-antix is already installed, then the upgrade should replace it with the newest version.
If it is not installed, in ‘net’ or ‘core’, then you must install it first.

BTW, you may want to try the ‘full’ antiX version instead.
It has graphical user interface installed and it is more friendly to the beginners.

Command explanation: && = execute the following command only if the previous command terminated successfully

                2) [The same thread] fatmac mentions to perform the (manual) partitioning, then reboot so that the partition changes are correctly detected by the system.

EDIT: Sorry, I did not notice the ‘full’ in the output of the inxi command. 🙁

If all that failed was grub install and you did the updates, then use boot repair from the control centre to fix grub.

This error pops up once in a while. We still don’t know what the reason is, but the solution is pretty simple.

if you didn’t format after the last “failed” installation, boot to the live media and go to
Control Centre > Maintenance > Boot repair.
                    1. First you will need to reinstall grub (select that option and follow the instructions for your specific case, be it MBR for Legacy_BIOS systems or EFI for UEFI systems).
                    2. Then, run “boot repair” again (or don’t close it and go back to the beginning), but this time select Grub repair instead. Again, follow the instructions for your specific case.

Once you are done, reboot and you should be able to see the antiX boot screen.
Here is a similar case to yours: https://www.antixforum.com/forums/topic/cannot-install-antix-grub-installation-problem/#post-39986
