::slimjet and epiphany browser are in the menu.
slimjet=flashpeak slimet
epiphany=Web
Regarding the opera browser I think PPC is right, it’s a chromium based browser and probably not installable on 32bit.If you want to manually add something to the menu you can use
control centre > maintenance(Wartung) > menu management (Menüverwaltung)
If you want to add something to the toolbar you can do it with
menu > Anwendungen > antiX > IceWm Symbolverwaltung der Werkzeugleiste
a nice tool if you use icewm provided by PPC.

::everything that is in th menu list.
– I don’t really know how to add things to it, I once found a config file where I could add programs and such, but couldn’t find it agian.
– Same goes for the toolbar, at the very beginning a found the config, changed the date, but now I realize I used the wrong time format – and I can’t find it where to change it and save it
– yes, and it didn’t change anything, slimjet appreaded after I installed it the third time.I hope you read my previous post, that explained somethings about your situation…
I think there’s no need to manually add entries to the menu, unless you really want to (ex: add manually installed binaries, or flatpak’s/appimages)- usually if the applications do not come up in the menu then they are not installed! If app-select does not find them, they are not installed (or like I said in my previous post, do not have .desktop files, which is *not* the case of those web browsers)- this is an oversimplification- and should be read as “you did not installed those applications using a .deb package, or you used a .deb package that does not include a .desktop file”.
From your screenshot, I can see that you have this browsers installed: chromium (probably an old version of Ungooled Chromium or of Chromium itself- that may install fine but not work with some 32 bits CPU ), Dillo and Links2 – the default extremely light browsers that come by default with antiX – Links2 is great for simple sites, like reading news, blogs, etc, but Dillo is pretty much useless now, unless you want to use it to read simple off-line webpages (I think that’s why it’s there, so you can read antiX’s help files)… (Flashpeak) Slimjet and Web (Ephifany).
-> To Pin apps to the top of Icewm’s antiX menu – Menu > Control Centre > IceWM… > “Menu” Tab – then edit the pinned apps and add/ remove what you want…
use one line per app, starting with Prog a space, the name of the app as you want it to appear in the menu, between double quotes, a space, path to the icon you want to be displayed in the menu, a space and then the executable file (you can learn the executable file from any app by searching for the app in app-select- it’s pointed up in the Exec line)-> To manage (add/remove) icons to IceWm’s toolbar– you can edit the config file in the “Toolbar” Tab, near the “Menu” tab mentioned above, but there’s a GUI: Menu > Applications > antiX > Toolbar Icon Manager
Edit: I tend to write a lot, so I got ninjaed on this post 🙂
Edit2: You lost me on this: “Same goes for the toolbar, at the very beginning a found the config, changed the date, but now I realize I used the wrong time format” why would you place/change dates in the toolbar? Do you mean you are not talking about adding “programs” to it, but that you want to change the date format, on the clock, on the lower right, Is that it? If so, it’s the “Prefereces” Tab, near the tabs I already mentioned. Search for “TimeFormat” or “DateFormat” – please note that anything after # on a line will be considered a comment. Change what you want, and restart icewm, to see the changes…
Edit3: I have no idea about you computer skill set, but you seem to be a basic Linux user – antiX is currently quite user friendly and, under ordinary situations there is no need to use the terminal or manually edit config files (unless you really want to, or you want to perform some out of the ordinary changes). In the case you prefer editing config files (it’s much faster than using GUI’s, if you know what you are doing) – probably all the config files that you ever need to edit, if you are using antiX with the default IceWM Window Manager (like you are, from what we can see from your screen), are always available from the Control Centre – in first tab (the default one, on the left side of Control Centre) – then click “IceWM…” and in the “System tab” (also on the left side of C.C.) – “Edit config file”- be very careful, when editing the system’s config file – you may render antiX useless and may end up needint to reinstall it… (that said, I messed a lot with those files, and never bricked my computer- always have backup files, to restore, in case things get ugly- boot from a usbstick, restore the files from backup and things get back to normal, no reinstall needded).

::Hi- “Opera” – it’s chromium based – I’m not sure that chromium based browsers are available for 32bits computers (I mean no “recent versions”, versions made some 2 years ago or so will still work in 32bits devices, but won’t be safe because they do not have recent security patches)
I was hoping for these, as they appear in the Package Installer, and in MX it is labeled as (32bit in Beta)
Like posted here, there is a browser that is based on old Opera versions, available for Linux – Otter browser
If version 12 is true, that’s a bit too old for my liking. As I said, I’d mainly choose it, cause of the current features and sync with my other devices.
<quote>“Chromium” and “Vivaldi”- the same applies – probably no recent Chromium version is available for 32bits linux devices (and I thinkg Vivaldi is Chromium based).</quote>
That’s what I feared, but that’s probably how it is, no 32 bit anymore.….it launches a program (app-select) that allows you to search, and then launch applications by name or description. It’s a bit slow to start on old computers, but does the same as the “search” feature in MX’s menu. If a program is not listed in app-selext, it’s because it’s not installed (or, if installed, has no .desktop file, which is not the case of any of these browsers)
I found that tool too, and yes it is very very slow and hence kind of useless if you’re looking for a programm quickly. Though it’s less important after you settled in and know which programs you’re actually using and got them on the desktop or in the menu list.
Do any of the menu entries that I (and a previous post) mention come up in the menu/appselect? If not, do you launch falkon from the command line, or how do you start it?[/qoute]
Falkon was the first I installed, cause I knew it works on this laptop (tried in a live version before). Added it to the toolbar as the default web browser at the moment.
32bits computers are a dying breed, so you’ll have to addapt and use only software that is still available for that arch: Firefox-esr, Firefox, Seamonkey, Falkon, slimjet, etc…
Indeed they are and I feel it more every day 🙂 Firefox are to heavy for this laptop, Flakon is running ok.
Slimjet has some very weird behaviour today, first it closed right away, than i could not scroll, than I could open any page – not even the settings menu
– So I think Slimjet isn’t really compatible with this one, too.
– Seamonkey doesn’t get installed like opera and the others.
– Epiphany doens’t scroll today either. I used it a few days ago, a bit sluggish, though there might be other reasons causing it.
Edit: on slow (and/or 32bits) devices, it may be worth to simply open /usr/share/applications in your default file manager ex:
zzzfm /usr/share/applications
This will show .desktop files for all installed applications on your computer
92 things installed, and yes the PI seems to be right 😀Is there a way to get a log about the install process? To see what actually went wrong during install – hence figuring out if it’s just the 32 bit issue.

::Hi all, according to some forum posts on vivaldi it is no longer possible to patch and
build the chrome based browsers for 32 bit. Last stable vivaldi version was released in 2021.One possibility, if security concious and wanting to reduce rescource usage modify
Firefox ESR with userchrome css and user.js from LibreWolf. Remove hidden extensions
from browser features too. Also use ublock origin if it will work with 32 bit.The less background activity (telemetry pinging etc.) the better the browser performs.
The modifications using the css will only work with ESR as setup for company
distribution. The Normal fox does not have the neccesary compile flags set. Will take a look at Firefox ESR again in the next weeks, maybe I can configure the appearance more to my liking, especially freeing up some more screenspace for the actual pages.

Didn’t try any of these tools yet. The thing about the clock was a config file, where I could edit %H and things like that.
Will take a closer look on these tools. Thank you very much

😀 that was exactly what I was looking at, and couldn’t find it anymore. Thank you

I considered myself at a moderate skill level, but I realized by now, that was back in the WinXP and beginning of Win7 times. By now I’d rather call myself Noob, especially when it comes to Linux.
Indeed AntiX and MX are always kind of doing what I expect them to do, and do that very fast.
I recently caught myself trying to edit my Win7 and was thinking why doesn’t this work … yeah these were linux commands and toolsets of MX and AntiX 😀November 25, 2022 at 12:31 pm #94013Member

::I’ll play a around a bit more, and come back if I have a specific question, as this thread got broad and confusing very quickly for me, especially as I don’t really concentrate enough on this laptop.
Busy times atm.So bear with me, and a very very hearty thank you for your help and all the effort.
The only still open question right now would be:
is there a log to see what went wrong during install via the package installer?November 25, 2022 at 1:13 pm #94014MemberModdIt
::Useful adress for Firefox modding
https://www.howtogeek.com/334716/how-to-customize-firefoxs-user-interface-with-userchrome.css/
I have managed to reduce the ridiculous height of Tab and adress bar.
The chrome/userChrome.css file works in ESR and quantum You will need to add it to the hidden profile
directory in /home/yourusername/.mozilla if it is not present already. Which seems to be standard. To get things working in latest ESR I also needed to set
toolkit.legacyUserProfileCustomizations.stylesheets true in about:config@namespace url("http://www.mozilla.org/keymaster/gatekeeper/there.is.only.xul"); /* only needed once */ #TabsToolbar { height: 25px !important; } #PersonalToolbar {height: 5px !important;}Gives me a lot more usable space :-).

now a log of the installing process would really come in handy.

::There should be a log in /var/log/apt/history.log
You can also install firefox from the terminal to see what’s going on.
sudo apt update
sudo apt install firefox-esr
and for the german localization
sudo apt install firefox-esr-l10n-deIf this does not work, please post

::looks like slimjet is a naughty boy
Nah, it’s install may have had some problem…
I can’t read german (I assume you’r german, argonaut459) but I ran the text trough a on-line translator- try what the terminal recomends:sudo apt --fix-broken installand then try installing firefox-esr again. If that fails, try this:
sudo apt purge slimjetshould remove (purge) slimjet.
Seamonkey is based on a older Firefox version, and should install just fine _(it’s not chrome based, so it works fine in 32bits devices). You can also try palemoon browser – it’s also light, and works on 32bits CPUS – both palemoon and seamonkey fail to render somes pages (like github), but there’s an extension that tries to make those browsers more compatible with sites like those…
So, “shop” around and check what works best on your device!
edit: ninjaed again, now by your edit- I’ll have to type faster 🙂

::Firefox ESR installed fine after fix broken install.
even slimjet loads, though it’s lagging and slow – can’t work with it.
I used palemoon as the very first as I was distro hopping, and though it worked I never liked it much. – Will take a look at it again. Will try installing seamonkey again in the future.
So far epiphany looks and feels the best -though its more strain on the CPU, using this forum as example, Falkon is about 80% (in the task bar down in the right corner)
Epiphany is rather 90% or higher.I’ll keep the others installed, and try them every now and then. Maybe even with a faster wifi 🙂
Thank you all for the help and actual effort to make this DAU realize what he does wrong.
:heart:Love you guys.
