Installing antiX linux on medion laptop

Dear antiX community,

Im trying to install the antiX linux (latest version) to my Medion Akoya E3222 (MD62450) laptop with the following specs:

Intel® Celeron® N4100 processor
Windows 10 Home in S-modus1
33,7cm (13,3″) Full HD touchbeeldscherm
64 GB
4 GB DDR4
Dolby Audio™
Intel® Wireless-AC 9462 9462 with Bluetooth®-5.0

But when im in the insall screen (from debian) its says it ‘no ethernetcard is detetected’.
Should i skipp this step and install the os anyway and fix it after the os install is finished?

It is important that you let us know exactly which ISO image you tried to install on your laptop. There are several antiX ISO images:

antiX-19.4_386-full.iso
antiX-19.4_x64-full.iso

antiX-19.4_386-core.iso
antiX-19.4_x64-core.iso
antiX-19.4_386-net.iso

With 4.9 or 4.19 kernel options.

antiX 21 is not the stable version yet, it is currently in beta 2 testing phase.

But when im in the insall screen (from debian) its says it ‘no ethernetcard is detected’.

I have already installed antiX on several computers and never got this message you described.

Could you give us more information?

Com as opções de núcleo 4.9 ou 4.19.

O antiX 21 ainda não é a versão estável, por enquanto está em fase de testes em nível beta 2.

After reading your post I used the following file:
antiX-19.4_x64-full.iso

This information is still not ideal, we need more information so we can help you. Can you post your laptop device information here in this topic?
Go to Menu > Terminal, when the window opens, type the command below and press the Enter key.

inxi -Frz

Select the entire description, click on the Edit menu, Copy. Then paste in this topic.

About TouchPad, I had a similar issue when I installed antiX-19.4_x64-full.iso ISO with kernel 4.9 on a laptop, but the issue is not antiX. It turns out that your laptop is newer equipment and therefore needs a newer kernel, for example the ISO antiX-19.4_x64-full.iso with kernel 4.19 managed to detect TouchPad and even had greater stability in Wi-Fi signal. Download ISO with kernel 4.19, prefer ISO version “full” of antiX, this is the best option for those starting with antiX or a GNU/Linux distribution.

When you test with antiX-19.4_x64-full.iso ISO with kernel 4.19 and your TouchPad is working, we can continue in the case of your Wi-Fi Scanner. Remember to enter your Wi-Fi Scanner data ( make and model), there may already be a tutorial on how to install and configure here on the forum.

I hope you can post the command output with antiX-19.4_x64-full.iso with kernel 4.9 and then post it again with antiX-19.4_x64-full.iso with kernel 4.19.

Sobre o TouchPad, eu tive um problema semelhante quando eu instalei a ISO antiX-19.4_x64-full.iso com kernel 4.9 em um laptop, mas o problema não é do antiX. O que ocorre é que o seu laptop é um equipamento mais recente e por isso precisa de um kernel mais recente, por exemplo, a ISO antiX-19.4_x64-full.iso com kernel 4.19 conseguiu detectar o TouchPad e ainda teve maior estabilidade no sinal Wi-Fi. Baixe a ISO com kernel 4.19, prefira ISO da versão “full” do antiX, esta é a melhor opção para quem está começando no antiX ou em distribuição GNU/Linux.

Quando você testar com a ISO antiX-19.4_x64-full.iso com kernel 4.19 e ter o seu TouchPad funcionado, poderemos dar continuidade no caso do seu Scanner Wi-Fi. Lembre-se de informar os dados do seu Scanner Wi-Fi (marca e modelo), pode ser que já exista um tutorial de como instalar e configurar aqui no fórum.

Eu espero que você consiga postar o resultado do comando com o antiX-19.4_x64-full.iso com kernel 4.9 e depois postar novamente com o antiX-19.4_x64-full.iso com kernel 4.19.

It gives me inspiration to help out, perhaps with translation work.
I have now clicked ‘install’ and followed the following steps:
1. Changed the keyboard settings.
2. ‘Regular install using entire disk’ selected and put the ‘use disk’ on the internal memory (was on the usb stick)
3. Skipped encryption.
4. select boot method, install Grub for linux and Windows:

sda2 (3.1mb vfat – efi-live)
5: following error message: failed to format required partitions

the translation program you use is perfect, I understand everything properly.

I’m glad I can help and that you don’t give up testing the newest kernel. If the official ISO with kernel 4.19 didn’t work, I’d still have a gift that Xecure (you’ll know about it) built, the ISO pseudo-antiX-19.3_x64.iso.

5: following error message: failed to format required partitions

I have already experienced this message, before proceeding copy your installation data with the 4.9 kernel. I managed to solve this using GParted, go to Menu > Applications > System > GParted, enter the password “demo” (without quotes), in the down arrow of GParted select your disk ID-1: /dev/mmcblk0 model: HCG8e size: 58.25 GiB, select one of the partitions, click on the trash can icon, repeat this procedure on all, on the swap partition you will need to right-click and click on the “Disable Swap” option to then be able to delete the partition. When you delete all partitions create as many partitions as you want, for example one to hold / (or rootantiX), another partition to hold /home and the third linux-swap or if you don’t want to separate the operating system (/ or rootantiX) of your data (/home) on different partitions, just create two partitions, one for (/ or rootantiX) and one for linux-swap. When preparing the partitions click on the letter “V” icon to apply the changes. When you receive information that all changes have been successfully made, close GParted and return to the antiX installer.

I don’t like to use this option, I prefer and recommend the option “Using a custom disk layout”, in the screen “Choose Partitions” you can indicate which partition will install antiX (/ or rootantiX) and which will be (/home) and swap. It depends on your choice.

I am glad that these programs are allowing people to communicate even without knowing another language.

Eu já passei por esta mensagem, antes de continuar copie os seus dados da instalação com o kernel 4.9. Eu consegui resolver isso utilizando o GParted, acessem o Menu > Aplicativos > Sistema > GParted, digite a senha “demo” (sem aspas), na seta para baixo do GParted selecione o seu disco ID-1: /dev/mmcblk0 model: HCG8e size: 58.25 GiB, selecione uma das partições, clique no ícone da lata de lixo, repita este procedimento em todas, na partição swap você precisará clicar com o botão direito e clicar na opção “Desativar Swap” para depois conseguir apagar a partição. Quando você excluir todas as partições crie as partições que você quiser, por exemplo, uma para receber o / (ou rootantiX), outra partição para receber o /home e a terceira linux-swap ou se não quiser separar o sistema sistema operacional (/ ou rootantiX) dos seus dados (/home) em partições diferentes, crie apenas duas partições, sendo uma para o (/ ou rootantiX) e outra para linux-swap. Quando preparar as partições clique no ícone de uma letra “V” para aplicar as alterações. Quando você receber a informação que todas as alterações foram feitas com sucesso, feche o GParted e volte para o instalador do antiX.

Eu não gosto de usar esta opção, eu prefiro e recomendo a opção “Using a custom disk layout”, na tela “Choose Partitions” você pode indicar qual partição irá instalar o antiX (/ ou rootantiX) e qual ficará (/home) e swap. Isso depende da sua escolha.

I try now:
1. Control centre
2. Maintenance
3. Boot repair
4. Repair GRUB configuration file

Dear Eismckwadraat19, this should not have happened. Did you notice if you selected your hard drive in the “Startup Disk” option, similar to the image https://ibb.co/GMVv54f?

I privately sent you the screenshots of the installation process. The texts are in pt-BR, but I believe they can help you find where the problem is in the installation process you made. In this topic I cannot insert all these URLs, otherwise Spam will block my reply due to the large amount of URLs.

I’ve only had this kind of problem on hard drives that have bad blocks at the very beginning of the drive.

Caro Eismckwadraat19, isso não deveria ter acontecido. Você observou se selecionou o seu disco rígido na opção “Disco de Inicialização”, semelhante a imagem https://ibb.co/GMVv54f?

Eu te enviei por mensagem particular as capturas de tela do processo de instalação. Os textos estão em pt-BR, mas acredito que poderão te ajudar a encontrar onde está o problema no processo de instalação que você fez. Neste tópico eu não posso inserir todas estes URLs, senão o Spam irá bloquear a minha resposta devido a grande quantidade de URLs.

Eu só tive este tipo de problema em discos rígidos que possuem blocos defeituosos bem no início do disco.

sudo apt update && sudo apt install antix-installer

After this I tried to create a ”home” and a ”root” disk and reuse the ”boot disk” of linux mint, but this did not work.
In the end, I found a solution 🙂

– you first need to format your entire disk to ext4.
– After that, you need to restart the laptop.
– After that you need to create a root and a home and a swap partition.
– When installing grub you do not have to choose MBR but ESP.
– The ESP is selected by default on the USB stick, you have to change it to your hard disk.

After these steps I was finally able to install antiX linux 🙂
