::My family name is Ukrainian too
Pardon me if I may appear too inquisitive:
Has your family name undergone a minor change, namely the last but one letter changed from ‘u’ to ‘c’, by chance?
The Ukrainian name was not ‘Masiniuk’, written in Ukrainian – Масінюк?
I happen to be familiar with constructs of Ukrainian name and not being Ukranian or Russian myself I do know a little bit Ukrainian language, Russian pretty well in comparison…
My conjecture about that one letter changed to be more in line with English construct and to be easier in pronunciation, as it is a common practice when immigrating to America and the construct ‘iuk’ at the end of name is pretty much common in Western part of Ukraine, while in the Eastern part of Ukraine names have often been just Russian.
I am just a first generation immigrant to USA, far cry from your many generations, and I just shortened my first name from ‘Franciszek’ to just ‘Francis’, so taking one as corresponding English equivalent…Live antiX Boot Options (Previously posted by Xecure):

::My father’s father was the only true Ukrainian in our American family; alas he passed away about 3 years before I was born so I never knew him. My father’s baby sister is the only remaining person in the family; I’m sure she could tell me a lot. What I can say is that there are multiple families, no direct apparent relation, but who immigrated to mining states, Pennsylvania in particular; at least TWO of them, ours and one other, settled at one point in Pennsylvania; my family’s ancestors moved to Detroit, Michigan and worked at a tire factory instead of a coal mine. The American generation all did very well and worked in many different forms of successful business.
My own father was someone capable of doing 3 and 4 digit multiplication and division in his head and be 100% accurate. He worked with high risk insurance and could undoubtedly assess the risk factors and percentages of risk versus income. He didn’t see his own need for computers until the time immediately before he passed away. He realized that computers were becoming communication devices and that led to an interest, but before he bought a system he died because he had the silent killer – high blood pressure!
Great family. I really grieve that the Eastern European and Western Asian countries have argued, fought, and had so much contention over the centuries. There are, in spite of that, great people, great music, great intelligence and many fascinating things. How I wish more places could find common interests like we do with our efficient software here! My best wishes to everyone here and a hope that we bring positive change in every worthwhile thing we collectively do together!

::Both Masinick families that I’ve found in random searches over the years spelled the last name the same; it could be the American immigration office that chose the spelling. Another really interesting thing I found was that the Masinick families I found had many children, and over half of them used the same first names, but they were not the same ages or necessarily in the same order, so they weren’t from the identical family tree, but probably would match lineage over a 100-150 year time span!

::@PPC:
I must admit I am very impressed by your statements exhibiting uncommon in the Western Europe understanding of complex situation in this Far-East part of Europe….
I am very familiar with the complex history of that region and Eastern Europe in general.
History of Portugal and Spain is of great interest to me too. Long time ago I made an attempt to learn Portugese and I was surprised how different pronunciation and some spelling is from Spanish… Differences developed sometimes to be on the opposite side, such as in 19th century alignment of Portugal with England, while Spain aligned with France…
I have been watching a TV miniseries ‘Sharpe’, adventures and battles of British detachment in Portugal under lord Wellington against the French army in Spain…
Highly recommended…
As examples and visuals are working more forcibly on mind than precepts: In reference to Russia and Ukraine history I would recommend three historical movies:
– 1612 – Dni Vielikoy Smuty – Russian movie about 1612-1620 when Poland captured Russian capital Moscow and held for ten years.
– War and Peace – excellent movie and miniseries about 1812, based on famous Russian literature, about times when Napoleon captured Moscow, but Kutuzow general eventually defeated the French army.
– With the Fire and the Sword – Polish movie from 1999 about 1648 events, uprising in then Eastern part of Poland/Lituanian Commonwelth, specifically the current Ukraine.
Civil war continued and later Ukraine decided to become a part of then Russia (treaty with Katherine the Great) rather than continue to be a part of Poland.- This reply was modified 1 month, 2 weeks ago by olsztyn.

::In the source of
https://gitlab.com/antiX-Linux/advert-block-antix/-/blob/master/block-advert.shthe blocklist is derived from
https://raw.githubusercontent.com/StevenBlack/hosts/master/alternates/fakenews/hostssome guy in Canada.
Where in this list, a bunch of *.rt.com sites are being blocked.
You have two options. You can turn off the “fakenews” extension. Or, in order to keep the fakenews extension, you would need to fork the whole thing, but it wouldn’t be hard: clone the project, then modify the blocklist (providing your own URL for the new list) and the script (update URLs) to reflect that.
Then run the new, forked block-advert.sh on your system
It would also be an option to disable the fakenews extension, and define your own separate “fakenews” blocklist solution, separate from the determinations of some guy in Canada.

Hmm. We’re having trouble finding that site. We can’t connect to the server at www.rt.com. If that address is correct, here are three other things you can try: Try again later. Check your network connection. If you are connected but behind a firewall, check that Firefox has permission to access the Web.Philosophers have interpreted the world in many ways; the point is to change it.

This is not an addblock issue of antiX. This is governmental internet censorship.
For Europe see:
https://eur-lex.europa.eu/legal-content/EN/TXT/?uri=CELEX:32022R0350 (Article 2f and Annex XV)
The US and other countries have probably similar governmental rules meanwhile. On the one hand I believe people should have a right to inform themselves about what dictators tell their people about the »big bad enemy« to talk them into war mood (which I have perceived from russian media during the last years constantly), but I also see the danger of other’s countries people being influenced by all the »alternative facts« (read: lies) presented from tv stations controlled by a dictator. We have seen what this ends already some decades ago. So I’m not decided whether it is better to block these problematic contents or allow people to access them.
—————————–
P.S.:
(Btw, Russia has blocked free foreign media for many years already, starting media censorship around 2011 or 2016 at latest. Then complete blocking all foreign media starting from 2022 by total military censorship, forbiddance of all leftover non-governmental media, and forcing remaining media to blacken out unwanted passages: The words »aggression«, »invasion« and »declaration of war« are prohibited by governmental decree, communicated by Media Supervisory Authority Roskomnadsor in early 2022. These words must get deleted in all Russian media. So, what kind of information will come from these russian media these days?)P.P.S:
Where is gone the independent newspaper „Nowaja gaseta”, Internet TV „Doschd”, or Radio „Echo Moskwy”? What has happened to Globus (Example of a local newspaper from city Serow) when trying to print an anti war cover? Also YouTube, Facebook and Twitter is blocked for russian internet users since March 2022. From leftover Russian media these days you can only get a Dictator’s war propaganda, same level of credibility like what in Germany was poured out over people by the „Völkische Beobachter” and the „Stürmer”.Windows is like a submarine. ::Sorry, guys. I’m busy with household chores and can’t keep up a conversation.
At some point it is ultimately your and my own decision what happens and not at all our fate
That’s what I wanted to draw attention to. It is important for you to realize that this moment will already be missed on the battlefield: you will be required to complete a combat mission, the fulfillment of which may be more important even than your life.
I’m a pessimist, but I highly doubt that will happen “in the foreseeable future”
You forgot: the war is already underway… There are objective reasons that create problems for the ruling elites of states. The nature of the conflict of their interests does not depend on such things as globalization. It is more fundamental. Now is just such a situation, which in the past has always been solved by war. And there is nothing to indicate that it will be solved in any other way now.
The state only follows its national interests. If it is necessary to ruin Iraq and Libya in order to steal oil, then it will not be done by the people or even cardboard politicians, but by the ruling elites: this is just the way they know how and want to solve their problems. At the same time, there is no absolute evil or good. There will always be those for whom these are not examples of state banditry, but the acquisition of far-advanced freedom and the triumph of unconventional democracy.
In exactly the same way, Russia will be forced to deprive the sovereignty of those states that host weapons that are dangerous to it. It is only her duty as a State to protect her citizens. And at the same time it is very difficult to assess the threat. Is the radar in Poland dangerous or it just a dummy? Were they engaged in the development of biological weapons in laboratories in Ukraine or this just a provocation? But if the threat is considered real, it will be necessary to deprive a sovereign state of its sovereignty, whatever it may be: Finland, Poland, Italy or Luxembourg. Will it be Russia’s aggression? Definitely. It will be aggression and invasion.
And there are those who will blow up gas pipelines, disrupt trade routes, cause epidemics and bombard cities with “strizhs”. They will not stop there until Russia and China (it is particularly vulnerable to disruption of trade routes) are forced to start a war to stop it all. This is how the war is likely to be unleashed this time, I think.
Words are carried away by the wind...

The US and other countries have probably similar governmental rules meanwhile. If it is a question of Europe governments blocking the news aligned with enemy country rather than the original issue with incorrect classification those as ‘Fake News’ category, then just for comparison, such government blocking is not in place in the US (at least not yet). In the US only the official TV channel seems to have disappeared from the channel selection but web sites and apps on phones are working just fine.
Seems to me government censorship might be stronger in Europe… I hope they will not block antiX Forum at some point, considering the openly anti-Fascist note, which European governments might consider being on the wrong side these times…- This reply was modified 1 month, 1 week ago by olsztyn.

::If it is a question of Europe governments blocking the news
Just read carefully article 2f:
[…] including through transmission or distribution by any means such as cable, satellite, IP-TV, internet service providers, internet video-sharing platforms or applications, whether new or pre-installed. […]
So European internet providers are bound to block these contents completely.
No doubt the US handle this more liberately on first sight. They even allow Holocaust denial and provide neo-nazis a platform to spread their brown crap among people, which is prohibited in many European countries (see: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Holocaust_denial#/media/File:Countries_with_laws_against_the_denial_of_Holocaust.png ). No wonder the US is home of all kind of world wide operating neo-nazi organisations: see for example https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Institute_for_Historical_Review So why should they block RT then? Further reading about in which countries RT is blocked and for which reasons: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/RT_(TV_network)#2022_Russian_invasion_of_Ukraine
BUT, don’t forget: Even when the US don’t block it directly, this doesn’t mean it isn’t under control at all. The US do handle all this by the power of their secret services instead. RT in US was enforced to register as a “Foreign agent”, so it is under control of FARA (see: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Foreign_Agents_Registration_Act ) officially since 2017. ( An act (law) which was copied by Putin in 2012, extended in 2017 and 2022 to ensure his road to dictatorship and war, see: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Russian_foreign_agent_law )
