      Hey guys,

      Is there any way to use a systemd dependent program in AntiX?

      The bank where I have an account requires the installation of an application and it only works on distros with systemd.

      If anyone can enlighten me, I would be grateful!

      PS: I’m a newbie and I’m still not very familiar with Linux, but from the little I’ve researched I’m aware of the stir surrounding systemd.

        Whatever bank it is all of them should have online access through browser. Banks in EU started to require app to be installed on Android and iPhone only for online purchase using debit cards as stronger authentication than through sms code.
        Other than that no legitimate banks should require Linux apps and not provide online access through browser.

          Hello dariel.elias.

          A banking institution in Brazil provides programs only for these operating systems: Windows 7 or higher, Mac OS 10.12 (Sierra) to 11 (Big Sur) and Mac OS 11 (Big Sur). The application for Windows has the extension “.msi” and it was possible to install with the compatibility layer of Winehq-staging that is available in the Package Installer.

          I hope this information can be useful to you.

            No.
            You may try, for example MX Linux, it has a lighter Fluxbox version that can be started in SystemD mode.
            Other light(ish) distros that suport systemd include, for example, the excelent Bohdi Linux

              @olsztyn, I forgot to clarify that access is through a web browser.

              On Linux, MacOS and Windows, the bank requires the installation of the application.

              Anyway, thanks for the reply.

                Care to tell us what the application is called?

                Philosophers have interpreted the world in many ways; the point is to change it.

                antiX with runit - leaner and meaner.

                  Prezado @marcelocripe,

                  Translation to English

                  Dear @marcelocripe,

                  I will answer you in Portuguese spoken in Brazil, because I am also in Brazil. In fact, many financial institutions require the installation of a Security Module which is even available in a *.deb package. However, when I went to install it in AntiX, as it is a system without “systemd”, it ends up not working.

                  However, your answer opened up the possibility of getting around this setback.

                  Thanks a lot for the reply!

                    @PPC,

                    As I’m not a Linux expert, I imagined that there were some way to use the app on AntiX.

                    I’ve tried MX Linux on my old netbook, but it became too slow, while others distros are very far behind AntiX.

                    Thank you for your reply.

                      @anticapitalista,

                      The application name is Warsaw. It’s used by brazilian’s banks as a security module, necessary to, through the web browser, access the accounts. It’s links are https://cloud.gastecnologia.com.br/gas/diagnostico/warsaw_setup_32.deb or https://cloud.gastecnologia.com.br/gas/diagnostico/warsaw_setup_64.deb

                      As I answered to @marcelocripe, there is a *.deb package to install, but in AntiX it didn’t work

                      So, I think the best solution is to access my bank account through my cellphone, because I’m not cogitating to uninstall AntiX.

                      Thank very much for your concern.

                        @dariel.elias- I downloaded the 64bits version and it installed fine in my computer. I started the application on the terminal, using this command:
                        exec /usr/bin/warsaw start

                        …the terminal closes automatically but the application seems to be running (it comes up in htop).
                        Are you not able to install/start the application? Or it does start but does not do what it should do (maybe when you go to the web site that requires it)?

                        P.

                          @PPC,

                          I succeeded to install it. However, I was unware of this command line to start the application.

                          I used the command line but unfortunately it didn’t work.

                            Hi, I wonder why an application is needed.
                            I live in Czech republic and applications for *mobile phones* are available to make internet banking easier.
                            1) Still, 2FA (Two Factor Authentication) is possible using plain old SMS; sometimes, one has to ask about it as it is not offered by default.
                            2) systemd required: if you run antiX stable, you may install it in a VirtualBox provided your machines resources will manage it.

                            Boot into systemd-mode of MX-Linux is a good suggestion.

                            I have “opened/entered” the ‘warsaw_setup_64.deb’ in Midnight Commander and the INFO file contains:

                            Depends: libdbus-1-3, procps, zenity, python3
                            Suggests: python3-gpgme | python3-gpg
                            Section: non-free/net

                            The issue is libdbus-1-3 because it is the only one that depends on ‘libsystemd0’ (which I have checked explicitly), see https://packages.debian.org/bullseye/libdbus-1-3

                            Surprisingly, my antiX has ‘libdbus-1-3’ installed (‘apt-cache policy libdbus-1-3’ outputs details about the version: 1.12.20-3.0nosystemd2).
                            Do you have this package installed?
                            If you managed to install the application without problems being reported (or fixed using ‘apt install –fix-broken’), then I fail to grasp why it fails to run properly.

                                Hi, assuming the application runs in the background, I suggest to:
                                1) Close (all instances of) the browser you plan to use to login.
                                2) Start the application and check that it is running (e.g. ‘ps -ef | grep warsaw | grep -v grep’).
                                3) Start the browser and try to log-in.
                                I would suggest to try Firefox or a chromium-based browser.

                                Also, it is possible that the bank could have a security policy that too many failed attempts could lead to temporary lockdown of the account.

                                  @sybok,

                                  First of all I’d like to thank you for your suggestions. I checked my AntiX and it has libdbus-1-3 installed, as also the others dependencies required.

                                  Last night, after reading all orientations, I verified that in the SysV Runlevel Config appeared an option to start warsaw service, so I toggled the service “on” in de “S” level, then I restarted the computer.

                                  However, it once againd did not work. When I tried to access my account the bank website returned an error message saying that the security module was not correctly loaded.

                                  This morning, after reading yours orientations, I decided to uninstall the warsaw’s package and reinstall it. While reinstalling, it showed a dependency error that I fixed using “sudo apt –fix-broken install” which showed that the following additional packages would be installed: bubblewrap, libgstreamer=gl1.0-0, libjavascriptcoregtk-4.0.18, libwebkit2gtk-4.0-37 libwpebackend-fdo-1.0-1, zenity and zenity-commom. This time it didn’t require systemd installation.

                                  After the conclusion, I tested once more time and, for my surprise, I was able to access my bank account.

                                  But, when I restarted my computer, the problem returned and I could no longer access my account.

                                  I’ve followed two times the proccediment and occured the same situation.

                                  So now I relly don’t know what is the real problem and if there is a solution to use the app on AntiX.

                                  @caprea,

                                  As @sybok said, it runs background. So whatever browser I use, it won’t work.
