::Can you copy and paste and post the command results from a usb what this spits out in demo mode. Using the computer you are posting with now to post the text file contents now on that usb drive with the read outs on them below.
inxi -Fxzlsusb -tdmesg | tailGood Luck and Howdy and Welcome. The above commands will give us a better idea of what you are dealing with.

::Hmmmm. This ethernet card you mention, can you elaborate what make and manufacturer it is. I know older laptops like yours use pcmcia slots and also know some older pmcia cards are not linux compatible when it comes to the internal internet chip inside. Sometimes. Cuz I have one made by orinco I think.
They only work in Windows. My IBM T23 with no sse2 support on the cpu . I bumped the ram up from 256MB to 1 Gig. Now the processor is the weak point when it comes to browsing or from opening too many applications during a log in session.

::Hi,
could also try to ping e.g. a Google DNS
ping 8.8.8.8
to verify that the problem is that there is indeed no internet at all (and not simply a bad DNS setting)?If the internet does not work on the live USB as well, you may redirect the output of commands such as
inxi -Fxzinto text files and transfer them where you have internet access working. E.g.
inxi -Fxz > INXI_FXZ.txt.- This reply was modified 1 year, 4 months ago by sybok.

::The output of ping makes clear that the internet works and the problem is in the DNS (domain name server(s)) setting.
If you did some modifications, can you undo them and test the connection again?I did search the forum for ‘DNS resolve’ and the result were two pages of posts.
1) File ‘resolv.conf’ was not writeable; the file can be found using
find / -name 'resolv.conf' 2>/dev/null
Mine is located at ‘/etc/resolv.conf’ and the rights, shown in output of ‘ls -lh’, are:
lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 27 Aug 3 07:41 /etc/resolv.conf -> /run/resolvconf/resolv.confLink: https://www.antixforum.com/forums/topic/unable-to-connect-to-wifi/
2) Altering default configuration showing some useful tips on modifying DNS.
Link: https://www.antixforum.com/forums/topic/set-default-dns-for-all-users-ethernet-wifi-connections/3) An old issue (already fixed) due to update of ‘connman’ did provide a solution for a similar situation as you have described.
I expect the cause is different in this case, but you could try it, if no one comes with a better proposal.
