I don’t need a full LibreOffice suite on a single-core Intel Atom netbook, as only Writer and Calc
(spreadsheet) is used. I would like to save a bit on drive space. Therefore:
1. Is it possible to install just Writer & Calc, rather than the entire LibreOffice package?
2. Would installing only these two elements, rather than the whole package, save a significant amount of disk space?
(I suspect the answer to this is it might not make a difference as the same list of dependencies are needed
whether a full or partial LibreOffice package is used – is this correct)Any help with this is much appreciated – many thanks in advance.

::So, just libreoffice-writer libreoffice-calc

359 MB
vs adding the full libreoffice metapackage, which adds a further additional 41MBFWIW, after installing, to pare down the disk space footprint, you can
sudo ncdu /usr/lib/libreoffice/share
drill-down into the contents of the gallery/ subdirectory
and, from within ncdu, you can press “d” to delete any unwanted items among the 15MB or so of samples and examples (“d” raises a confirmation prompt, must confirm to proceed with a deletion operation)Within the /usr/lib/libreoffice/share/autocorr/ directory, you can selectively pare
about 1MB worth of acor_*.dat files (files for locales that are alien to users on your system)While chasing “bloat”, you might also
sudo ncdu /usr/share/icons
and selectively delete subdirectories therein
or manually nix ’em via rm commands.
The following are lines excerpted from my personal cleanup script.
IIRC, removing these frees 35–40MBsudo rm -rf /usr/share/icons/hicolor/512x512/* sudo rm -rf /usr/share/icons/hicolor/384x384/* sudo rm -rf /usr/share/icons/hicolor/128x128/* sudo rm -rf /usr/share/icons/papirus-antix/64x64/* sudo rm -rf /usr/share/icons/papirus-antix/48x48/* sudo rm -rf/usr/share/icons/Adwaita/512x512/* sudo rm -rf/usr/share/icons/Adwaita/256x256/* sudo rm -rf/usr/share/icons/Adwaita/96x96/* sudo rm -rf/usr/share/icons/Adwaita/64x64/* sudo rm -rf/usr/share/icons/Adwaita/48x48/*December 6, 2019 at 3:00 am #30178Member

::A fantastic reply skidoo – thankyou for taking the time over your detailed & informative reply.
Yes, tried antiX 19 32-bit, but decided to stick with 17.4.1 (base version) for now as it seems to run better. So from what you said, it’s 359MB (Calc & Writer) vs ~400MB (complete package), which means
not a lot of memory saved … many thanks again for this.- This reply was modified 3 years, 5 months ago by mikey777.
