Late to the party as usual 😉 – but I’d just like to say that this version might be a replacement for ‘base’ for my new installations, having wifi out of the box makes this version much more useful than the old ‘core’ that I tried before, & it even has a neat little menu system. 🙂

Thanks for making this version so useful.

I thought “core” was command line only. Does it come with X and a window manager already set up?

I tried the Net install once and failed misserably to set up a window manager with menus. I think I tried core also in version 14 and was unable to make it work for me. But my memory is a little unclear as to why. I thought it had to do with getting the menus configured in fluxbox.

Oops, got those big emoticons again. I’ll try to see if I can avoid that next time. Still learning this bulletin board system.

Yep, ‘core’ was a basic CLI version, but a little while back I remember reading that it now had wifi out of the box, & it’s taken me all this time to get around to giving it a go. There still isn’t a GUI, but there is now a menuing system for the main CLI programs, which makes it quite ‘user friendly’, & it has some of, if not all of, the antiX specific tools, etc.

Edit: If I remember right, you just need to install X & a WM of your choice to get a GUI up & running.

Ahh, I understand now. Yes, I saw that CLI control center in one of Dolphins videos. I may try that. I’m not sure I am ready for an all command line system yet but maybe. I think I’ll install it and find out. I have an old box sitting here ready for a test run.

I’ve put mine on a netbook with 2GB ram, & will probably add Firefox-ESR, so it will need X & Fluxbox for me, which should keep the size of the installation quite small. 🙂

Though antiX Core starts with a very minimal amount of software, it takes only a few commands using apt or apt-get to get a pretty nice system.

You may be able to install a few meta packages to get a decent system unless you want very specific software. In that case, install the packages you need. Usually the dpkg or apt infrastructure will install anything else you need if a particular application depends on additional software.

I just gave core a shot and ran into difficulties. The first is I wanted to reuse ~/sleek on sda3 and while the installer asked which partition for home, that’s all it asked.

I did a re-install twice to see if I was making an error but couldn’t find one. I also noticed that after the installer asked if sda3 was to be a new directory or existing. I chose existing.

No other questions after that asking/suggesting that sda3 would be used for home, or not to be overwritten, or anything else. After install I tried mount -a and got nada and was unable to continue because no directory existed.

Because of this I was unable to get a user environment and could only log in as root.
Guessing I may have missed something simple but no idea.

Decided to switch back to base for now, but would love to know what I might be doing wrong. Also, as a side note, a list of packages to install right away might be helpful. I followed dolphin_oracle’s tutorial and some of the packages no longer exist or have been changed. Probably didn’t matter cause I had a clue of what would be needed, but others might not.

                      This has been noticed before.
You need to update the cli-installer before installing.

antiX with runit - leaner and meaner.

Thank you for your reply anti.

If you are using the cli installer and have /home on a separate partition then you may have to manually edit /etc/fstab (as root) and make sure there is an entry there for your /home partition.

                        This will Do:)
