      W: Failed to fetch http://ftp.cc.uoc.gr/mirrors/linux/mx/antix/buster/pool/main/l/linux-4.4.0-276-antix.1-486-smp/linux-image-4.4.0-276-antix.1-486-smp_4.4.0-276-antix.1-486-smp-1_i386.deb

I installed it without problems by running
      sudo apt-get install linux-image-4.4.0-276-antix.1-486-smp

        Thanks for the feedback @andfree
        Wonder why that has happened.
Personally speaking, I find running cli-aptiX to be the best way to update kernels.

Philosophers have interpreted the world in many ways; the point is to change it.

antiX with runit - leaner and meaner.

I’m afraid it was just because I had temporarily lost my wifi connection. It happened again while trying install 4.4.0-279. I tried again after wifi connection was fixed, and 4.4.0-279 has been installed via synaptic without problems. Sorry for having wasted your time.

Thanks. I see a problem about cli-aptiX (I don’t know if I should start a new thread, I would prefer to rename this one, if I could edit it). I can’t read from terminal how to choose among options, I have to copy-paste to the editor. For example:

In the next step you will be shown a list of packages that you can scroll
Use <up-arrow>, <down-arrow>, <page-up>, and <page-down> to scroll the list
Position the package you want near the bottom and then press ‘q‘ to continue

Press <Enter> to see the list
Use ‘q‘ to go to the main menu
Use ‘r‘ to repeat same search
Use ‘s‘ to do new search

I used bold text to highlight whatever I can’t see at (urxvt) terminal. I don’t know if using a different terminal could be some solution.

            andfree,
Give another terminal emulator a shot; I don’t have that problem with cli-aptiX. I normally use roxterm, if that helps. Adjust the color scheme in roxterm preferences, if you need to do so.

I’ve not ever had a problem with cli-aptiX, urxvt, or roxterm. I’ve also used lxterminal without any issues.

While it is difficult to know with certainty, it seems far more likely that the inconsistent network connectivity may be affecting what *appears* to be a terminal issue. It could be a hardware component problem, a physical network connection problem or even a network provider problem.

There is not any clear evidence that defects in any terminal software is responsible, though that could be a (very unlikely) possibility, but personally I’d eliminate physical networking issues and hardware issues first. On my own equipment, hardware issues (though also rare), are the most common source of problems on old hardware; I’ve also encountered a loose connection a few times. Disconnecting and reconnecting all physical cables sometimes “magically fixes” strange issues.

Thanks for all the replies. Unfortunatelly, a more consistent network connection is not possible, for the moment.
No problems about cli-aptiX with roxterm.
Is there any way to change the colour of urxvt?
And how I terminate cli-aptiX? I closed and re-opened the terminal (rox or urxvt), but:

                $ sudo cli-aptiX
Error: A cli-aptiX process (using PID ...) is already running
Error: Please close that process before starting a new one

Error: Please close that process before starting a new one

                  sudo kill -15 <pid>

                  That should close it.

Or if you reboot, then that will close it, too.

Regarding variations of rxvt/urxvt, the resources used are similar to those used by Xterm.
Read the man page for rxvt and see if it helps, or look at X, Xresources, and Xdefaults for specific details.

Setting simple colors, such as Red, White, Black and Blue, can be specified using those names with a -fg flag for foreground and -bg for background, for example

urxvt -fg yellow -bg black &

                    See http://pod.tst.eu/http://cvs.schmorp.de/rxvt-unicode/doc/rxvt.1.pod

Pressing “q” 2 times will exit from cli-aptiX in most cases.

This fixes the issue about cli-aptiX. Is there any way to make the change permanent?

I have always used Synaptic to update kernels.

The first time I tried that, it did not work.
But the problem was that I had not selected both parts: linux-header and linux-image for the specific kernel and configuration (486 versus 686).

I can’t see how it works. Whatever changes I try for the background colour, urxvt always appears to be white.

I never select headers for installation. I don’t think it’s necessary for the use I do.
