            On my Dell Inspiron 15 I7-7559 I got the black screen when I tried to boot. I also get that same black screen trying to boot 5.10.142 from the package installer. I have the Skylake processor with i915 and nVidia Optimus Graphics. I am currently running the 4.9.0.326 kernel and have been using the following boot codes to get it to boot
            acpi_osi=!Windows acpi_osi=!Windows i915.preliminary_hw_support=1

            I read that the i915.preliminary_hw_support=1 was replaced by i915.alpha_support=1 starting with 4.10 kernels (just learned that). I read that the i915.alpha_support=1 was deprecated and being by i915.force_probe=XXXX (device number) starting with 5.3 kernels. (just learned that).

            I haven’t been able to run any kernels above 4.9.0.xxx with antiX thus far, and I guess that’s why. I really want to get my bluetooth headset working (been trying a long time), and I don’t know if its a kernel issue, software issue, or idiot behind the wheel problem 🙂

            I guess I will try again. Should I put in 191b in the parameter like this, or an *? i915.force_probe=191b

              Hi @BobC,
              I was wondering if you would consider trying a different approach.

              I have had a lot of success and enhanced performance using the liquorix kernel. Your system has the i7 processor, which is fairly new. I have had success on all my x64 systems with the liquorix kernel, even systems that are over 10 years old.

              If you want to try it, please first make a backup iso snapshot of your current system. Then,

              To install the liquorix kernel, simply type in terminal:

              curl 'https://liquorix.net/add-liquorix-repo.sh' | sudo bash

              and reboot. This will get you the latest 6.0 kernel. If it works, great. If not, you can so back to your backup iso snapshot.

              Just a thought.

                I not only *like* the Liquorix kernels, I *have* to use either Liquorix or xanmod1 kernels. Debian isn’t exactly *Quick* to offer new kernels either.

                My newest system won’t recognize all of my hardware; in particular, it doesn’t recognize my wireless firmware so I have to get the kernels and firmware updates from another system and copy them onto my antiX partition and then I can use the system.

                On the flip side my oldest systems run very well with old antiX kernels and updates; Liquorix will also work on all of them.

                  I like the antiX kernel and the linux-libre kernels too … they consume less energy.

                    I found out more about the id on the i915.force_probe= from https://wiki.archlinux.org/title/intel_graphics

                    Arc GPU kernel support

                    As kernels 6.0 and below do not officially support the Arc GPU family yet, the driver needs to be forced to load.

                    In your boot loader, use the following kernel parameter:

                    i915.force_probe=pci_id

                    The PCI ID is the output of:

                    $ lspci -nn | grep VGA | sed -n "s/^.\+\[8086:\([[:alnum:]]\{4\}\)\].\+$/\1/p"

                    You will also need to set your driver in xorg.conf as follows:

                    /etc/X11/xorg.conf.d/20-intel.conf

                          I haven’t had time to test it yet. I just found these possibilities last night. Once a year or so I try to get my headset to work. Someday there will be joy, LOL.

                          As for testing this, I need to get a test partition setup to be able to test without risking my main system.

                            Many thanks for the request to try the new antiX kernel, received a few days ago.
                            For my Asus X71Q, the story is always the same: I installed the image and headers for 5.10.153-antix.1 but, as before, it keeps getting stuck before boot-up is complete. Therefore, I’m continuing to use 5.10.153-gnu1 as before. I don’t have any problem on this hardware, with any of the gnu1 releases of kernel 5.10. I should add that this is specific to my Asus. The other two laptops, listed in my signature below, seem to run without any incompatibility issues with 5.10.xxx-antix.1

                            Might it not be better for developers to base the antix.1 kernel on gnu1 rather than debian versions of 5.10, in an effort to avoid the hardware incompatibility that has arisen for a number of antix-forum members?

                              Not really since a gnu kernel (if I understand correctly it is libre) blocks any non-free drivers.
                              The vast majority of wifi need non-free firmware.

                              Secondly, I have no idea what the gun devs have patched to their kernels since they haven’t provided the source (or maybe I haven’t found it).

                                I retried 5.10.142 and 5.10.153 and both resulted in immediate black screens.

                                4.19.0.256 did work with the new i915.force_probe=1 code though, so that’s forward progress.

                                  I found this quote from Wikipedia which might be of general interest while on the subject of the 5.10 gnu kernels:
                                  “Linux-libre is a modified version of the Linux kernel that contains no binary blobs, obfuscated code, or code released under proprietary licenses. In the Linux kernel, they are mostly used for proprietary firmware images. While generally redistributable, binary blobs do not give the user the freedom to audit, modify, or, consequently, redistribute their modified versions.”

                                  So, as gnu kernels appear not to be ‘corrupted’ by “binary blobs” (whatever they are) and rogue code etc, I would have thought it’s easier to work with them. However, I suppose it’s the “obfuscated code” that helps the 5.10 debian kernel (and by inference the antix.1 kernel) to work with proprietary drivers, but at the same time makes it incompatible with some hardware. Needless to say, I really know very little on the subject …

                                  That said, my Atheros and Realtek network drivers appear to work smoothly with the 5.10.153-gnu1 kernel on my Asus X71Q – their spec is as follows:
