Hello,
On my antiX 21 (runit) config, I cannot save choosen options in “system keyboard” dialog box. I reach this dialog box from antiX Control Centre, then “System tools” tab.
I can add some new layout, or change shortcut to switch between layouts. But it lasts only for the session. I have to start from defaults when I open an new session. That’s rather boring when you add the same layout every day 🙂 Furthermore I found that the switch shortcut is not effective. I cannot change layout with it – I have to run fbxkb-start to have the icon in the taskbar and to click on it when I want to change keyboard layout.
I did not find any other options that would not be saved. I run this antiX every (work) day and it’s fine with my whole config and a bunch of current apps.
Could you have a look and told me if you antiXers are able to save keyboard options through restarts ? And could you help me to find what I messed up ?

::Disclaimer: I do not run live GUI.
Perhaps, you could put some of the commands that you need to run into ‘~/.desktop-session/startup’ file.
Some may already be there but commented out.# Set initial keyboard layout setxkbmap <whatever your preference is> # Puts a flag on the taskbar to show which keyboard is being used if more than 1 keyboard layout is detected fbxkb-start &I recall that this has been discussed elsewhere in the forum and an alternative to ‘setxkbmap’ that deals with the layout switching was proposed.

::Hello @sybok,
Thanks for your message. You’re right and I am ashamed I did not find it earlier, same topic was discussed earlier (january) in 2022 :
<ul=https://www.antixforum.com/forums/topic/keyboard-layout-always-lost-in-live/>https://www.antixforum.com/forums/topic/keyboard-layout-always-lost-in-live/However… there was no answer on why the GUI Control Center does not allow to set keyboards layouts and not to forget them at next boot. I guess that’s still a mystery, and I wish I could be able to find the root and put forward some kind of patch.
At least there are workarounds, and I will probably end up with your “setxkbmap” line in a startup file.

::The ‘setxkbmap’ by @Robin in the following post https://www.antixforum.com/forums/topic/keyboard-layout-always-lost-in-live/#post-76302 is (even) better.
That’s what I had in mind. -
