Hi All!
Bit of a departure for me here; found a solution rather than asking for one.
This is just a heads up for anyone who wants access to a keyboard switcher (like moi).Thing is, a bit over 2 years back, I asked for help on keyboard switcher’s here.
Now that I’m settled in with antiX 21, I thought I’d try the keyboard switching thing again.
But, I could not get fbxkb-start to work for me. It mostly worked a couple of years ago, but not all I got was a ‘one keyboard only’ message.
So, I installed gxkb (via Synaptic), per BobC’s suggestion and that worked nicely.
I replaced what I used used before, for English (Canada), Spanish and Esperanto keyboards, which was this:
setxkbmap -option grp:switch,grp:shifts_toggle,grp_led:scroll 'ca(eng),es' & fbxkb-start &(in ~/.desktop-session/startup, via Control Panel -> Session -> User Desktop-Session)
And I replaced it with this:
setxkbmap 'ca(eng),es,epo' & gxkb &The only aesthetic problem as having flag icons for ca(eng), Canadian English, and epo (Esperanto), as BobC said a couple of years ago.
He got the Esperanto one to work (‘epo.png’ image inserted, with root privileges, to /usr/share/gxkb/flags), but couldn’t get the Canadian flag to show.I found all you need for the Canadian flag is a ‘ca.png’ graphic in that directory. I assume that means if you want a graphic of a flag not found in /usr/share/gxkb/flags, you need to make one with a file name matching the letters of an abbreviation, barring anything after any underscores or parentheses in the keyboard abbreviation name.
Anyway, just thought I’d mention that in case anyone is fussy, like me, and wants a keyboard switcher with flag graphics that may not be on offer with gxkb’s default flags.
Hope this is helpful to someone…
