      If you are are unable to ‘send’ books to your kindle, here is a potential fix. (Note: this is not intended or tested as a kindle Fire fix.)

        Thanks, manyroads. I am sure this will help a lot of people that use kindle devices.

        If you may accept a small suggestion, you could also publish the same article here. I have found many cases where urls send you to a broken link because the article was deleted, the web organization had changed or simply the website that hosted said article was deleted. It is very frustrating fro me when I find a possible solution to my problem and the post’s link leads to nowhere. If possible, with small and well explained articles like yours, you could share them in the forum pasting them here (with minimal formatting) and redirecting at the end of your forum post with something like “Original article here (link), which may also have more updated content”.

        This way we can all profit.

        Thanks again.

          I am happy to publish things here. You probably already knew that. I apologize that you are experiencing link problems to my site. Those are truly a bad thing… I am always, 100%, willing to share what I publish and think I know (I don’t believe everything I think either…) 😉 In the meantime please let me know what you might want published beyond the Kindle fix item.

            If like me you use a Kindle eBook reader, you may have experienced an Error sending books to & from the Kindle (I use Calibre for that.). If you are are unable to ‘send’ books to your kindle, here is a potential fix. (Note: this is not intended or tested as a kindle Fire fix.)kindle

            • First verify that your Kindle is mounted as read-only. If it is, that is probably due to an earlier ‘dirty’ dismount.
            • If it is mounted as Read-only perform the next steps. If not, this solution is probably ‘not for you.’
            • Find the folder of your kindle device by typing the following command in terminal mode:
              $ mount

            In my case the output is:

            /dev/sdb on /media/mark/Kindle type vfat (rw,nosuid,nodev,relatime,uid=1000,gid=1000,fmask=0022,dmask=0022,codepage=437,iocharset=utf8,shortname=mixed,showexec,utf8,flush,errors=remount-ro,uhelper=udisks2)

            • Once you have the device (mine is /dev/sdb) you now need to correct the filesystem access problem on it (/dev/sdb).

            That can be done using fsck (in terminal mode)
            $ sudo fsck.vfat -r /dev/sdb

            • You should be presented with the following in your terminal window:

            [sudo] password for mark:
            fsck.fat 4.1 (2017-01-24)
            0x41: Dirty bit is set. Fs was not properly unmounted and some data may be corrupt.
            1) Remove dirty bit
            2) No action
            ?

            • At the question mark enter 1 to clear the dirty bit and follow the responses indicated below:

            ? 1
            Perform changes ? (y/n) y
            /dev/sdb: 420 files, 12600/814583 clusters

            After this everything should be back and operational. If not, well may the ‘force be with you.’

              Thanks for hearing me out, manyroads. I am obsessed with being able to find the same resource in many places.

              And sorry for expressing myself incorrectly. I didn’t mean that I had trouble on your website. I can’t remember right now experiencing any broken links while reading some of the articles on your knowledgebase. I was referring to other occasions when I am looking on the internet for a solution to a specific problem where someone suggests that they solved it following the instructions in a website, give out the link, the link is broken and they never explained how they solved the problem exactly. It is in those cases I wish the person replying in the forum had at least given out the steps they followed, and not only the broken url.
              Just me ranting.

              Thank, manyroads.

                No problem, at all, Xsecure. As a genealogist I see that problem often. My solution is to either to scrape what I need and archive a copy –or– go to the wayback machine and do all those things necessary up to and including copying a site and putting it back online (I’ve done that a couple of times). 😉
