I’m having some trouble with the laptop shutting down.
I have a Dell Latitude D600 laptop with antiX 17 and kernel 4.9.148. It has been working fine up until this week.
It seems to go through the shutdown process OK, and gets to “(info) Will now halt”, but it doesn’t shut down. I have to use the power button to turn it off. Also, I notice that the volume control does not maintain it’s setting.
A restart works OK, however, again the volume control does not maintain it’s setting.

::On older IBM laptops
acpi=offwas a boot parameter that got my shutdown to complete on older kits.

::The setting of the sound volume at startup is configured in the desktop-session.conf file
control-center~~~session~~~user session
In geany go to the desktop-session.conf , scroll down to STARTUP_SOUND_LEVEL
By default it is set to 25%January 24, 2019 at 8:22 am #17349Membergreyowl
::Thank you both, it is now completing shutdown. I put acpi=off in the terminal and ran it.
With your instructions, I was able to change the volume default, and it is maintained after restart.There is one remaining problem. When I start the laptop and it goes through the process of starting, the brightness dims about half way through, so after it starts, I have to set the brightness up each time. It doesn’t maintain the brightness setting from shutdown to restart. Any ideas on this?

::No ideas. But I have seen this happen also on my small atom touchscreen netbooks with certain kernels.
No idea why this happens.Like when my touchpad freezes when I plug in the cheap chinese power brick on that atom netbook.
Needs a external mouse then while charging the battery.Hardware can be PITA some times.

Note:
It is best to keep queries on topic. When asking supplementary, off topic, questions it is usual to do it in a new thread. It simplifies subsequent reading and searching.January 25, 2019 at 10:07 am #17536Membergreyowl
