      Hi,

      I wonder if anyone on this forum has had experience using the latest version of sane-backends (1.0.28). Even Sid only carries still the 1.0.27 version.

      My scanner (Canon imageClass D570) is supported only by 1.0.28. However, attempting to install that from scratch has been a nightmare for me – I try to purge the existing sane-utils and libsane, but then after compiling and installing the latest tarball from the backends Gitlab page, I get an error saying that ‘scanimage’ isn’t found, and even when I try /usr/local/bin/scanimage’, it doesn’t go through.

      Hopefully, someone is well-versed in this and can offer some help.

      – Brandon

        You probably already thought of that, but is your user member of the groups scanner and saned ?
        What’s the output of
        sudo ldconfig -v | grep libsane

          I’m actually now on a different install of AntiX – I’ve purged libsane and sane-utils, and have installed the 1.0.28 version of sane-backends.

          I’ve also now added my user to the scanner and saned groups.

          After that, the output of sudo ldconfig -v | grep libsane:

          ldconfig: Can’t stat /usr/local/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu: No such file or directory
          ldconfig: Path `/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu’ given more than once
          ldconfig: Path `/usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu’ given more than once
          ldconfig: /lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/ld-2.28.so is the dynamic linker, ignoring

          libsane.so.1 -> libsane.so.1.0.28

          I also did scanimage -d test -T, and all tests passed! So it looks like I may be on to something.

          I’d like to be able to use the scanner over a wireless connection. However, the Debian help-page on this topic only delves into a systemd-oriented
          solution… anhy AntiX-oriented solutions?
