Upon booting up the system the font size in the launch menu is extremely small (my monitor is a television). When I go to desktop in the launch menu and choose any of the selections the fonts correct to a readable size. It also seems to have prevented me from increasing the size of the mouse cursor in the control centre but I haven’t tried it with the smaller lauch menu fonts yet!

I suspect it may be a video driver issue, but first knowing a bit more about your system may help.antiX Live system enthusiast.

::I’m using a thumb drive with persistence through a small form factor Linux Mintbox Mini Pro 2 with a Celeron cpu and an Intel HD Graphics 500 graphics processor. What’s interesting is that the mouse will increase in size until I go to choose any desktop out of the launch menu! The choice of desktops upon boot makes no difference. I have two thumb drives with Antix 19 installed with this identical glitch!

::If you don’t want to give the system info for your machine, at least give us the output of the graphics configuration

As I said before, I suspect that it is a driver issue. Either the device has problems with modesetting or the intel driver, or you booted in failsafe mode, but we cannot know exactly what is happening without you providing more information.antiX Live system enthusiast.

::No one likes to admit they don’t have the skills to send the output from the command line in a terminal to the forum. I tried to cut and paste but failed and my knowledge of the command line is quite limited If I were only young and had the time…

::You can also do it graphically (I forget this option exists).

::Thanks for that.
It seems to be an Intel Celeron CPU N3350, as you say with Intel HD Graphics 500 to manage graphics. It seems to use the correct i915 kernel driver and modesetting (kernel managed) for xorg video controller (though it could also use the intel xorg module).I found some threads for this CPU, and there seems to be better support on kernel version 4.19. If you don’t mind, try this ISO on live USB on your machine just to see if the Font size issue is fixed there. If it does solve the issue, and you have an installed antiX system, you can install the latest antiX 4.19 kernel using the package installer and reboot (which will automatically load the newest 4.19 kernel).
Let me know how it goes.

::I tried the ISO and have the same issue where I have too many desktops in the ‘other desktop menu’ which you addressed in a previous posting in addition to the font issue posted here! I haven’t installed the suggested kernel change but I did watch the video on how to do it. I have a live USB of 17.4.1 that had a menu issue which was addressed which may or may not be related. Otherwise this works well and should be the backup to any system installed. All I need now is a deb buster game of hearts!

::If I understand correctly, it seems there is no issue in antiX 17.4.1 (and it has the same resolution of 1080p), but newer antiX releases (with newer xorg server versions) do have all fonts looking extremely small, as it also happens with the mouse cursor.
If you have some time, would you mind doing a final test on antiX 19.X just to see if it can be solved by changing some dpi options?
Control Centre > Set Font Size DPI > 1.33 (128 dpi)
and also changing mouse cursor size with:
Control Centre > Hardware > Mouse Configuration > Size (in pixels) and increase it a bit. (Enable configuration on startup bottom option before saving). The multiple “other desktop” options in the menu was solved for the new upcoming version of antiX, but needs to be backported. I will send the devs a fix for the antiX19 version to fix this issue there too.

::I was already at 128 dpi so I increased it and the fonts in the launch menu immediately increased in size. When I rebooted they were back to the original small size. The cursor increases in size upon a reboot along side of small fonts. When I choose ‘other desktops’ in the launch menu the fonts increase in size while the cursor diminishes in size. The monitor is a 37″ Samsung television.

::Installed, remastered and rebooted the new 4.19 kernel from the package installer to no avail.

::As you are running entirely on live USB, on the first boot menus, try using one of the dpi boot parameters so that it is always forced on each session.
dpi=128Can I get confirmation that the issue is not related to only the menus being small fonts but all programs as well (the DPI resets after each session)? I initially understood that moving the mouse over the menus made the font go small (don’t ask me how I got to that conclusion), so I thought it was the video module.
I think maybe a boot option is resetting the DPI values each session.

::The fonts are only too small in the initial menu when booted and the mouse cursor is enlarged. When I start any desktop choice in the ‘other desktop’ menu the fonts enlarge and the mouse cursor shrinks! The fonts in the programs don’t change unless I reset the dpi in the Control Centre.

::Correction: the fonts in the programs and applications change out of the Control Centre > Customize Look and Feel.
