::Hello f23948.
Welcome to antiX Linux and the forum.
I don’t know how to write in English and I send my texts translated by the internet translator. I hope you can understand everything, if your native language is not English, please translate my original Brazilian Portuguese text directly into your language with the help of internet translators.
Regardless of your level of knowledge about GNU/Linux, I recommend you read these excellent tutorials created by @PPC:
What is antiX and how to try it out or install it.
Short essential how-to list for the complete Linux newbie.
How-to install applications – 2020 version.
How to: correctly use antiX forum. When I first started using antiX, I read the tutorials that PPC created, these readings saved me a lot of time and I think it saves time for any new antiX user. Your time will not be wasted with these readings, everything will seem to be much easier than you could imagine. You won’t waste your time searching the internet or even creating new topics, on the contrary, you will gain a lot of time with these readings.
I recommend you try out desktops that have “zzz” in their name. I usually use zzz-IceWM or zzz-JWM or zzz-Fluxbox (each of these desktops has its own characteristics and consumes more or less resources), zzzFM will be the default file manager for your desktop, it it is very similar to the other file managers of other GNU/Linux distributions and Windows XP. To access other antiX workspaces, click on Menu, Desktop, Other Desktops and click on the workspace name, instantly the workspace will be loaded.
Whenever you need to ask for help or technical support, post the output of the terminal command $ inxi -Fxz, copy and paste it in the message of the topic you are going to create in this forum.
When you start a topic or participate with a post, remember to check the option “Notify me of follow-up replies via email”, by checking this option, you will receive a message in your email box whenever there are replies from topic in question.

::As far as I know there is no uniform definition of what is a legacy computer. there are several ways to think about it. Examples: consider 32bits devices as legacy, or single core devices as legacy, or devices without UEFI as legacy… etc..

You could group computers into legacy / modern by measuring the average spec of a computer used in countries by capita level.
Zimbabwae, in Africa, has a low GDP per capita. Computer users from this region of the world are still buying & using refurbished Core2Duo machines, which cost between $150-$300, which is around 1-2 months wages. Core2Duo’s where the early 64 bit machines, but by rich western country privileges, they are considered legacy.
I would say a Core2Duo machine is the middle ground, but by no means are these machines poor in quality. I had a Intel Yorkfield Q8300 Core Quad for 10 years and I haven’t really noticed any speed increases with the modern Ryzens or I5’s. In gaming you can notice some differences but for normal everyday stuff … no difference.
So back to your question, is a 2016 machine legacy? No its very modern.

Im running Antix 21 full iso on a 10 watt TDP 2013 Pentium ATOM. Works great off Solar Panels.

All three of those systems are quite suitable for antiX.
Ironically enough it’s my newest system that is the first one that doesn’t work well with antiX. I did get antiX 21 runit Full to be recognized from a USB; the problem for me is that it recognizes only the Ethernet device, not the Wifi device, so on that one system, an Acer Aspire 5 Model A515-55, I run other distributions; there the siduction distribution, a Debian-based distribution, is superb.
Today, I’m here with my Dell Inspiron 5558; it runs antiX REALLY well.

::The menu entry re legacy v modern refers to the kernel not the hardware.
Philosophers have interpreted the world in many ways; the point is to change it.
antiX with runit - leaner and meaner.

Thanks anti! Several of us apparently ignored that specific question.
For those who aren’t familiar, there are a few changes in the specific hardware systems that the kernel supports.
I’m not 100% positive when the exact changes took place, but over the past few years some long term support was removed for super old devices, so it definitely makes a difference, and that is one reason why we support multiple kernels. Most of my systems run fine with either kernel, but in a few of my recent tests, I’ve actually found a few cases where the 4.9 kernel is just perfect for my oldest systems, whereas the newer kernels are better in terms of capabilities and maximum performance on systems that are five years old or newer, and a few of the very newest systems are ONLY supported by the absolute newest, cutting edge kernels.
My current group of systems covers that range of systems much better than what I had before; in one case, the 4.9 is best; I even had a few problems with 5.10 or newer kernels. Then I have one system that’s quite picky; it runs great on the newest stuff, but it’s the first system I’ve had in 15+ years that’s had any difficulty; I attribute that to the ever increasing size of the Linux kernel and the separation of features between older, repeatedly patched kernels to support aged hardware and the updated support for newer systems. It’s difficult to support so much hardware; at least it is easier now to understand why so many proprietary operating systems become a huge mass of difficult to support systems.
