I started up antiX-17.1 x64 Full from CD and when presented with the boot options screen under F7-Console I selected the option “ask”. I was presented with a monitor filled with screen resolutions to choose from. I made a selection and had the selection confirmed. I proceeded with loading antiX. After a short period of live use I went ahead and clicked on the install icon. I chose Stretch. I ran through install in the usual way, including choosing the option to save live desktop changes.

When the fresh install booted up I selected the top, default option in grub. Next thing I knew, I was looking at a terminal telling me something to the effect of “Legacy option Ask no longer supported”. I was caught in a loop and I didn’t know how to get back to grub. I rebooted (hard boot) and tried Advanced Options in grub but I got the same result.

It’s no big deal. I just reinstalled and went with the default F7-Console selection. But I thought the information was worth sharing.

There is a fix grub option in a live session in the antix control center . Just letting you know . I used to fix my snafus running a live session vs a reinstall.

Like deleting new slim.conf and replacing with slim.conf.old. I learned that backup files are created and named .old when agreeing to something that breaks bootup.

But you are right. A backup and re-install takes no time for me either.
