Here’s the story from last night on Phoronix: https://www.phoronix.com/scan.php?page=news_item&px=Systemd-Creator-Microsoft

I don’t pretend to know what this means for the future of his projects, but I’m glad I moved on from systemd distros when I did. He seemed very much like a guy with a Microsoft kind of mindset to me once I began studying what he was doing, so this move is not surprising.

Anyway, for those of you who didn’t trust him years before I got a clue, my hat is off to you. I was still using openSUSE in early 2019 if I recall correctly, so I was very late to come to my realization about systemd compared to many of you.

I have no idea what Microsoft plans to do with him. But I think many will see it as payment for a job he’s been doing for them all along.

Rest assured that antiX will never be bought off by a company.

Philosophers have interpreted the world in many ways; the point is to change it.

antiX with runit - leaner and meaner.

In other words, unfortunately even in the GNU/Linux world there are people funded to destroy people’s open source philosophy and privacy.

Sooner or later we will have to have one or more free SystemD repositories. The few free GNU/Linux distributions of SystemD could get closer to each other and who knows, one day, the free SystemD repositories could grow to the point where we no longer need the repositories that have packages with SystemD.

Even the PCLinuxOS Brasil people had already commented on their social networks about this danger, one or more GNU/Linux developers officially financed by closed source companies.

The following sentence appears on the website:

Even before the days of WSL or Linux on Azure becoming widespread, for more than a decade Microsoft has been an unlikely Linux sponsor at events and more. Pictured above was Microsoft’s large presence at LinuxTag 2012 in Berlin, including the sponsoring of a beer party and coffee bar.

This seems obvious, it keeps the open source code alive and then copy and close the code. And if it wasn’t enough to close the code, it still puts the company’s copyright. As the code is closed, it is difficult to prove this.

Rest assured that antiX will never be bought off by a company.

I was very pleased to read the automatic translation of this sentence.

          – – – – –

Even before the days of WSL or Linux on Azure becoming widespread, for more than a decade Microsoft has been an unlikely Linux sponsor at events and more. Pictured above was Microsoft’s large presence at LinuxTag 2012 in Berlin, including the sponsoring of a beer party and coffee bar.

Rest assured that antiX will never be bought off by a company.

Ahhh, I was thinking that he’s probably been getting MS money for awhile now, glad you cleared that up.
