Running antiX 21. Tried to play a dvd but Celluloid, requested to open a disc, replied “no disc” even though one was in the DVD drive.

On a hunch checked /usr/lib and found no libdvdcss or libdvdcss2 there.

      1. Tried Control centre -> Software -> Package installer -> Nonfree -> Non free video codecs

Got a dialog box saying it was running apt-get update

      Then nothing was installed.

      2. Tried Control centre -> Software -> Manage Packages -> Search for libdvdcss2

      Libdvdcss2 found

      Requested installation of libdvdcss2

Error message said something about failure because the package had been removed; sorry I didn’t note it down.

      3. From terminal:

      Ran sudo apt-get update

Repeated Control centre -> Software -> Manage Packages -> Search libdvdcss2

      libdvdcss2 NOT found this time.

      Installed codecs-antix 22.09.26

      Still no /usr/lib/libdvd*

      DVD still does not play

      4. Searching this forum for “libdvdcss2” yields many threads which I’m sorry to say I don’t understand. For example, “VLC broken after todays update, non reinstallable” and “geany-plugin-markdown won’t install.”

      5. In Puppy Bionic 64 I see in /usr/lib

libdvdcss.so.2.2.0 (and several links to it)
      libdvdnav.so.4.2.0 (and links to it)
      libdvdread.so.4.2.0 (and links to it)

What would happen if I simply copied all those files to antiX 21’s /usr/lib? Anything awful?

      Any other suggestions?

Thanks, and apologies for my ignorance.

Actually I thought the codecs for DVDs were no longer necessary. But no matter, please type in terminal
        gksu codecs
        The rest is self-explanatory.
