      Fixed it by first force-installing the dependency for Debian 10.

      sudo apt install libfreetype6=2.9.1-3+deb10u2
      sudo apt autoremove -y

      sudo apt install libfreetype6-dev

      =============================================

      Doing some C/C++ programming — ran into this dependency error:

      $ sudo apt install libfreetype6-dev
      Reading package lists... Done
      Building dependency tree
      Reading state information... Done
      Some packages could not be installed. This may mean that you have
      requested an impossible situation or if you are using the unstable
      distribution that some required packages have not yet been created
      or been moved out of Incoming.
      The following information may help to resolve the situation:

      The following packages have unmet dependencies:
       libfreetype6-dev : Depends: libfreetype6 (= 2.9.1-3+deb10u2) but 2.10.1-2mx19+1 is to be installed
      E: Unable to correct problems, you have held broken packages.

      Is this normal — any ideas on how to fix it?

      I’m using the 5.10.57 kernel on 19.4 Full amd64.
