Have you seen this issue?¿
I wonder if I am the only who saw this issue in several version of this libreoffice. I'm using now the lastest from repository because the one that I had didn't brought office base. The squares are also displayed on spreadsheet and these other stuff.
- #1 No, I run a perfectly builded system, maybe you should get brand new stuff.
- #2 Yes, I saw many of them through websites, didn't expect it to find it here too.

Hello everybody, I came up with another situation that I didn’t find in the search through this forum, if you could check the attachment then explain to me: why do I have squares instead correct language?¿
I would like to know if anyone else had been into this situation and how can be solved. I tried to update and change languages but still so same thing. This computer specification are somewhere in this forum, just I don’t know why this program (libreoffice) its the only with that issue, still lastest firefox and others displays very well their selected language.

::This looks like a missing font issue.
Linux, Mac, Windows … different programs … different ‚broken look‘ but, always fonts.
noClue what caused it — it can have too many different causes.

::Not specific to antiX, not specific to LibreOffice Base…
…if dealing with a db file, I would suspect the problem is due to mismatched encoding(s)(the encoding reflected in the db filename and/or table names may differ from the encoding specified for DATA residing within any given table)
here’s a couple of potentially enlightening results from websearch query “UTF-8 encoding database libreoffice”

javaldx: Could not find a Java Runtime Environment!
Warning: failed to read path from javaldx
Error: source file could not be loadedI tried that command, and didn’t work also, maybe I am missing some files or stuff who void the correctly show interface. I am using english language but I don’t know if moving to another one. Also in the display options appears hindi or chinese without allowing you to take another choice.
I’m running from a live persistent changes antiX usb, maybe if I make a full install I could correct this stuff (if you guys are not experiencing this problem); I’ve not space left to try it out.

::Could not find a Java Runtime Environment!
Normal.
Either you get Java from:
https://java.com/de/download/linux_manual.jspOr, you get it over Synaptic, from the repositories.
Did you install Libre Office from the repositories or from the website?
P.S.
My post above, wasn’t there to solve your problem but, only to give you a clue what might be going wrong and tell you, “you’re not the only one”.June 19, 2019 at 8:14 am #23380MemberSome1

My post above, wasn’t there to solve your problem but, only to give you a clue what might be going wrong and tell you, “you’re not the only one”.Everything was gotten from repositories, still if I intall the fonts and symbols, etc. I’d not know about kanjis language. I believe somewhat in the program forces to use that language and that’s what I see from the display, I don’t know why.
About installing java I don’t have free space from the usb memory, I had to unplug the disk due a power supply failure, it seems can’t feed it well and the disk start to make noises. Whatever embracing java will just for extra stuff in libreoffice, I don’t think its program-based on it. If you guys don’t have this issue, maybe it could be a bug or code overwritten for libreoffice 32 bits program.

::1. I don’t have the answer.
2. There can be too many possible causes for such behavior.
3. It’s Linux — it never worked and it will probably never work — except as a server.
Just some, possibly unrelated examples:
I had to unplug the disk due a power supply failure, it seems can’t feed it well and the disk start to make noises.
It MIGHT (not MUST) cause the file corruption. Damaged file == missing file. You get boxes instead of letters.
Or …
I make some icons, copy them from A to B and they don’t show up. I update icon cache and they don’t show up. I check .desktop file and it’s fine.
I check file permissions … a ha … they somehow got screwed up when copying (but not if moving!) from A to B.
Can anybody grant me with his life, that it’ll not happen when installing and updating?Screwed permissions == missing file. You’d get boxes instead of letters. 😉
Or …
You install some application … Wireshark this time, or VBox guest extensions, or Wine/PlayOnLinux/Steam and it doesn’t have sound, it can’t find shares or the network interface.
You only need to add yourself to some user group or are missing 32-bit libraries if you’re on 64-bit, or …Screwed users/groups (~permissions) == missing file. You’d get boxes instead of letters. 😉
And so on and on and …
4. Your very specific issue has a plus issue — it’s pretty common on other OS’s too and so — Bing-it, Google-it, Yandex-it …
I’d recommend — reinstall the whole system.
It’s quicker then debugging.

You could also first purge all libreoffice packages and then install them again. Maybe something got lost and maybe this fixes it. It is the first thing I try (after trying a reboot) when something I installed seems broken.

::Reinstalling the LibreOffice suite and possibly any missing fonts is a good start. If it works for you then you are done. If not, it eliminates two likely problems, so it’s a good start.

::I kept away from forum due network issues but now I’m back.
After several tests, even with a Western Digital tool, the disk is healthy and work fine; but I can’t use it with this power supply, already tested over several OS. Since then I’m running a persistent live usb in this computer, maybe it hasn’t enough space left to install fonts or anything else, can’t test from the scratch cuz I’d have to reinstall all the thing over again (I tried to reinstall but it doesn’t remove the packages, just a file).

FYI, in the case of insufficient space, the persist-save operation will display an error message.
