I have been using links2, both in text mode and in graphics mode. In graphics mode (xlinks2 command in terminal), if one right clicks on a link, there is an option to copy link location. Please see screen shot below. If one selects that copy link location, I suppose that it would copy to the clipboard. But I think it doesn’t. After I click the copy link location option, I open up a terminal and try to paste the link. But there is no paste output for that link in terminal. I have tried this on antix 19.4 and antix bullseye a2-runit. It is the same result where I cannot copy the link address to the clipboard, even though there is an option to do so. The links2 version is 2.22-1.0-antix1. I think this is the latest version.
Does anyone know how to copy the link location to the clipboard in the graphics mode of links2? There is the option to save a link location, but that is adding extra steps of saving it, open up the file, copying the link address, etc.
Thanks

::Are you using Ctrl-Shift-V to paste in the terminal? How about opening a text editor and pasting into that, does that work?
Maybe “Copy link location” is not used to put link on the shared clipboard? Maybe internal cache of links2 only?

::Hi @seaken64,
I tried pasting to geany text editor. That does not work.
I tried pasting to terminal using right click and paste and Ctr-Shift-V and they don’t work.
If the copy link clipboard option saves to internal cache in links2, how does one access it?June 9, 2021 at 4:53 pm #61254Moderator

I just tested this, and it works: click the Copy Link location in links2, then — position your cursor, and middle-click where you want the text to be pasted, whether terminal or text editor, etc. 🙂

::Hi @christophe,
I have been using this links2 browser for a while, and I have not thought to use the middle click. Thank you so much for your suggestion. It works!
Now, links2 is even more valuable to me. I have been testing very light browswers for my oldest systems.
Now, I can use graphical links2 to search the invidiou website for youtube videos, for example, copy the link address, and use terminal to launch mpv +link address to play the video. This links2/mpv combination is another alternative to the smtube+mpv/vlc or ytfzf methods.
Thank you so much.
Can you please mark as solved?
Thank you again to @christophe and @seaken64 for your prompt and useful help.June 9, 2021 at 7:39 pm #61262Member

::Hi!
I’ve been using Links2 a lot, I think it makes the web more accessible and readable by removing all the clutter. It even bypasses the paywall of some news sites, notably The Economist. My suggestion would be to enable clipit in the desktop session. It’s already installed, just uncomment it. Right click on the clip icon and select preferences. Enable “use primary selection” and “Synchronize clipboards.” Now when you copy the URL from Links you can paste it with ctrl+v. Also any text you highlight in Links can be pasted with ctrl+v. I find that to be a lot easier than “middle clicking”, especially on a touchpad.

Awesome. This procedure enables the Ctrl+Shift+V or right-click + paste option in a terminal window. The middle click also pastes as well.
Thank you for your suggestion @blur13

::@calciumsodium, you’re welcome. As a sidenote, the fact that you mentioned that graphical links can be started in the terminal using xlinks2 solved a problem I was having with using links as the default browser in the Alpine email client. I start graphical links using links2 -g, but Alpine setup wouldnt support -options, so I was stuck using the text based links, or firefox. Using xlinks2 solved that problem. So thanks!
