@all – make sure that your translations at Transifex do not contain any warning signs. If they do, then the file does not get translated correctly.
@Robin, I tested the downloaded file (Greek) from Transifex and tested it at boot screen.
Mostly OK, but some formatting issues eg F4 and F5 menus.

        Hello @anticapitalista,
I’ve checked this. Looks like the transifex site replaces all the xml conform <br /> tags by simple html conform <br>. Maybe this is the reason for wrong formating. No idea whether this can be fixed. I’ll care for it and ask them as soon as possible. But please let me know whether restoring the original <br /> tag in the paragraphs in question of the translated file from transifex does fix the issue when testing in boot screen. And please also check whether all <br> tags in original html en file could get replaced by <br />, so we could apply an automatic replacement <br> to <br /> on the files after translation comes back from transifex.

Please Robin, check the private message I sent you about some details that are in the original “en.html” file that need to be fixed. I’ll send you the GitLab “en.html” file that I reviewed.
          Grateful.

Por favor, Robin, verifique a mensagem particular que eu te enviei sobre alguns detalhes que estão no arquivo original “en.html” que precisam ser corrigidos. Eu vou te enviar o arquivo do “en.html” GitLab que eu revisei.
          Grato.

Thanks for sharing, as a starting translator didn’t know this …

              Dear developers,

              What to do about warnings?

For example in the translation string #63, there is a double parenthesis at the end of the sentence in English.

Save rootfs in RAM, save home on disk (save root at shutdown))

In French, I put only one parenthesis at the end and Transifex gives a warning message. “The translation does not contain the same number of closing parentheses as the original.”

Can I use extra parenthesis or not in the translation because Transifex will always give an alert message? For the moment, I have replaced the parenthesis in some translations by quotation marks to avoid alert messages but it is not optimal.

Thanks in advance for the support.

              Best regards,
              Wallon

                Dear moderators,

Can we add in the thread title the name of the file in Transifex? “antiX bootscreen helpmenu (HTML file)”.
If another translator is looking for information, it will be easier to find this thread?

                Thanks for the translators,

Warnings are good to know wen you have missed something (like a variable or something similar), but many times you can ignore them. I use more (or sometimes less) parenthesis when translating, and adapt things to make sense in my language, (and I also get the “waning, mismatch number of parenthesis”). I don’t follow an exact/literal translation and I take a some liberties to make the translation more natural, trying to keep the character count similar.

You can ignore the warnings if it is only related to parenthesis.

                        Dear developers,

I have finished translating the file “antiX bootscreen helpmenu (html)” in French (fr) at Transifex.
I can’t copy the translations to the French Belgium folder (fr_BE). Transifex asks me to check several parameters in the html file and I’m a bit lost.

Can someone copy the translations from (fr) to (fr_BE) for “antiX bootscreen helpmenu”?

I’m really sorry to have to bother you again.

                        Best regards,

You have to make sure all warnings are fixed.
I just checked and there are some warning ‘errors’

                            @anticapitalista
I’ve found out meanwhile: The reason for the replacement of the tags is: The document has the wrong type of header. If you want to make the XML flavour of the tags beeing kept on transifex you need to change the header of your file to

                            <!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD XHTML 1.1//EN"
                            <html xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml">

                            Secondly:
In XHTML, elements must always be properly nested within each other. This is mandatory. No open <p> tags not being closed by </p> afterwards are allowed, as in simple html.
So what @marcelocripe already has mentioned, some missing opening or closing tags in your code cause problems.
If you write html manually it is a good idea to shift/indent the nested tags so you can see immediately any error in structure. Transifex needs you to write clean xhtml code (or html if the <br> instead of <br /> is no problem), otherwise translations will not come back properly. You may check your file using the online w3.org html/xhtml validator before handing it over for upload at transifex.

Please check whether attached xhtml document in »en« works fine in antiX boot loader. It is your original text, slightly restructured for obeying clean xhtml. Then we can use this as a base for further corrections. I have tested already this file will give back the <br /> tags correctly after downloading a pseudo-translation from transifex, you may test this dummy file pseudo translation also (It doesn’t contain any sensible text but arbitary textstrings for replacement, to check the structure given back).

In case this works as expected, I’ll replace the existing transifex resource by the xhtml version, so we get back usable translation files from then onwards.

Generally (for all translators): In order to upload any external readily translated html files to transifex in any language you are to mark all duplicate entries within your file as follows, before uploading:
In case you had to translate the entry Main Menu more than on time in your html document, transifex expects you to add the attribute
                            data-tx-separate="false"
to all tags with occurrences of Main Menu except for the first one. You have e.g. to change the string:
                            <p>Επιστροφή στο <a href="#main">Κύριο Μενού</a></p>
                            to the complemented string:
                            <p>Επιστροφή στο <a data-tx-separate="false" href="#main">Κύριο Μενού</a></p>
And so on, with every single duplicate you have in your file. Walk through your document and add this attribute to the ALL tags containing duplicates of any strings.
After this your file will upload properly and refresh the existing translations.

OK, board doesn’t like xhtml-files getting uploaded directly, then let’s try zip instead.

Robin, even with the necessary opening and closing fixes I’ve made, the W3 validator complains about several tags and proposes several changes. XHTML code is old, HTML5 is current, but I don’t know if it will work correctly in antiX bootloader.
If we have to keep the old HTML code and cannot use the updated file to XHTML or HTML5, we will need to create another medium that is simple for all translators, but Transifex or equivalent platform is always the best way.
The anti-capitalist accepted the corrections in the en.html file , but there is still work to be done on the en.html file.

                                – – – – –

                                  Addendum:
As best practise to avoid the lengthy and stony path of adding all the data-tx-separate=”false” attributes to all the duplicates in the original file when translating offline directly in the html document I suggest to download the file of your language from transifex “for translation” before starting. This specialy crafted file will properly upload again to transifex after you have translated and replaced the respective translatable strings in it, without any need of adding the attributes described. This file is explicitly meant for translation purposes only, it is not for use. For testing the result you need to download the file type »for use« afterwards.
