      Good day to all,

I am sorry if this question might have been asked already. I was looking at the forum and was not able to find anything related to my question.
I made an encrypted Life-USB with persistance-all out of a Live-USB. The tool is great and self-explaining. When you crate such a Life-USB the user is automatically called “Demo”. When I first booted into my new Life-USB I made a new user with my name, hit the “login automatically” button and deleted the old user Demo. After I did that, the system did not boot anymore into my new account.

      Question:
      – how to I safely remove the “Demo” account and boot into a new account?
      – how is it possible to just boot into the login screen and then choose the account you wish? (helpful for multi-user system)

Thank you for your answer and best regards,
      Patrick

Please not that I only create a personalized ISO twice and never used encription, but this should apply to your questions:

Q: how to I safely remove the “Demo” account and boot into a new account?
A: Control Center > Maintenance > User Management > delete the “demo” account, add your default account. Reboot to test this change. If everything is OK, you can then create your new antiX ISO, selecting the option to keep your user data, etc.
Q:– how is it possible to just boot into the login screen and then choose the account you wish? (helpful for multi-user system)
A: Yes. Select if you want to automatically log in the the above Control Center option. You can change that setting in Control Center > Session > Automatic Login

After I did that, the system did not boot anymore into my new account.

What does this mean? Did you arrive to the login screen? Was the system blocked from booting? Did you arrive to the login screen but the default user is still demo?
Sorry, but I din’t understand if the system “broke” after removing the demo account, if the new account didn’t appear at all or that you arrive at the lgin screen instead of auto-login automatically.

You should only remove the demo account AFTER login into the new account first, and from this new account.
          To change login options:
Control Centre > Session > Login Manager > Change your default user and make sure auto-login is enabled.
If you disable autologin or the default user, then you will arrive to the login screen.
You can log out any time from the Exit Session window that will appear when you hit “Exit” from the menus.
          Exit-Session

Thank you for your answers. After creation of the Live-USB (it asks you to create a new password for root and demo user etc.) I booted into the “Demo” user. So far all fine. I then crated a new user, logged out of Demo and logged in to my new user. I then copied all date from Demo to my new user. You can all do that with the GUI User tool. After I did that, I hit the check button “login automatically” on my new user account. After that, I deleted the Demo user, rebooted the system, hoping that it would automatically login into my newly created user. That did not happen. My assumption is that the Live-USB-installer (and the later installed system) just works with the Demo user, and not with a another crated user. I am not sure about it. I would just be happy if the system would at least boot into the login (Slim) screen, but the screen remains dark after boot message “start x”.

            Cheers
            Patrick

              Hi Patrick,
you can change the account username and owner with the tool from controll center, i have tested it several times and found ok.
When you copy a lot of files from another account or other antix version you may also need to change ownership and group, at times
including .files. It all works, just sometimes need to go slow and keep a good backup. I had enough calls for help to make me repeat
and repeat. Have also been glad to have an up to date image waiting numerous times.

When you make a big change do a personal remaster, see if you can login to the changed setup
as already mentioned in previous posts.

Create the new user. Log in to the new user. Use the tool mentioned above to make it the default user for the Login Manager. Reboot without deleting the demo account.
If everything goes well, you will auto-login with your new account.

If the demo account is needed for the live system to work, don’t delete it. It should only use a few Megabytes of free space at most.

The “auto-login” option in the User manager has never worked, so ignore it and use the Login Manager instead.

That did it. You guys are awesome. Yes, you are right. First crate new user. The logoff the Demo account. Login with new user, save persistance and reboot. You will again automatically boot into Demo. After that go into ControlCenter/Session/LoginManager and switch default user to the new user (or deselect autologin if you just wish the Slim login screen). But again, that only works if you reboot the system before, otherwise it wont find the new crated user in the drop down list.
Thanks to all for your hints. This community is great.

@ Moderator: you can check this topic as “solved”.

To avoid people auto-loging in to a user account without knowing the password, I programmed login manager to only display the default user, the current logged in user and blank (no default user). This way you cannot log in to a different user account without knowing their password. It is a stupid limitation (because you need root/sudo access to login manager, which also gives you powers for removing accounts or changing their password), but I didn’t want it to be too easy to change accounts for a normal user.

So, to enable auto-login for the other user with Login Manager, you first need to log in as that user.
