      Dear translators,

      At string 10 in Transifex, there is the following sentence in English;
“Set regional formats and Fallback language”.

What is “Fallback language”? Why capitalise Fallback? It’s not very understandable for me.

      Please help me to understand.

      Best regards,
      Wallon

You are right – Fallback should not be capitalized.

In your case ‘Regional’ would be be_FR and fallback fr
In Spain for example, ‘Regional’ might be ca_ES and fallback es

        Hope that helps.

It doesn’t get any clearer than this!

I don’t know the background of this since I’m struggling with getting my systems running completely on antiX 21 still, so I don’t have much time to look into the translations right now. But these language identifiers look a bit strange to me. Is there a reason the default Unix/Linux format isn’t used but a reversed form of it with changed position of language and region identifier?
Default would be for the regional forms “fr_BE” and “pt_BR”, not “be_FR” and “br_PT”. Doesn’t this conflict with the default in some place in the system?

I think anticapitalista has made a typographical inversion. It happens to me too.

Wallon, the automatic translation of the phrase “Set regional formats and Fallback language” doesn’t make any sense for my language, so I adapted it to “Set the language and formats of your country’s standards”. I hope this will help you.

Wallon, la traduction automatique de la phrase “Set regional formats and Fallback language” n’a aucun sens pour ma langue, je l’ai donc adaptée en “Définir la langue et les formats des normes de votre pays”. J’espère que cela t’aidera.

Wallon, a tradução automática da frase “Set regional formats and Fallback language” não faz sentido algum para o meu idioma, por isso, eu adaptei para “Definir o idioma e os formatos dos padrões do seu país”. Eu espero que isso te ajude.

Sorry Marcelo, your modification changes the meaning. “Fallback” in this context doesn’t mean “standard”. The word “Fallback” probably refers here to the built-in mechanism of gettext translations used by antiX which automatically uses an existing translation of the base language (with two or three character identifier e.g. “pt”) instead of the fully qualified language_REGION language identifier (with 4 to 6 significant characters like “pt_BR”) if the latter isn’t available for a specific translation. This automatic replacement is called “Fallback”. So you’ll have to find a wording in your language which describes this properly. The complete fallback order is usually something like pt_BR → pt → en, the last fallback is English always. Think of fallback as of an automatic replacement in case of inavailability of the instance originally choosen.

                      Dear Marcelocripe,

I saw your translation in Transifex before I read the antiX forum. You know that I like to compare my translations with other translations in other languages.
I think you should reduce your explanations. It’s really long. I will try to give a little more information but in a shorter way.

I think that anticapitalista has made a nice programme for us. I would have liked to test it even in English.

Thanks also to Robin for following us to better understand how Debian and antiX work.

I just saw a video on Youtube about antiX. One of the complaints was that antiX was very English-centric. Personally, I think antiX has evolved well and we are doing our best to distribute antiX in other languages than English.

                      antiX, always more beautiful…

                      Kind regards,
                      Wallon

                        Dear Translators,

Please pay attention to the string n°39, the word “Collation” is a computer term.

I have been looking at Spanish, Portuguese, Italian and other translations…. “Collation” is not always well translated.

                        Wikipedia explanation;
an anglicism used in computer science to designate a way of classifying data, according to their character set and defined sorting criteria (e.g. alphabetical or inverted, case sensitive or not, etc.).

Teamwork is the best way forward for translations.

                        Best regards,
                        Wallon

                          Hello dear Wallon.

You know that I like to compare my translations with other translations in other languages.

I also like to do this, because it makes the pt-BR texts much richer and more understandable, than just trying to build the texts from automatic translation alone.

I think you should reduce your explanations. It’s really long. I will try to give a little more information but in a shorter way.

The anticapitalist provided a URL for Robin in the other thread, this URL helped me find a newer version of the package locale-antix_0.1.3_all.deb. I was able to test all the texts and make them well adjusted in the graphical interface.

I think that anticapitalist has made a nice program for us. I would have liked to test it even in English.

The program already exists, please click on the antiX menu, Applications, antiX, “Langue de l’utilisateur” (the menu must have your translations, as the anticapitalist has already made our .desktop file available in updates). A window will open inviting new volunteer translators, click the close button, then the “locale-antix” window will appear, which can also be found in the /usr/local/bin folder.

Thanks also to Robin for following us to better understand how Debian and antiX work.

It’s true, without Robin, I wouldn’t be able to understand what the word “Fallback” means in the context of the sentence on the show.

Teamwork is the best way forward for translations.

Yes, you’re absolutely right, with teamwork, we always get excellent results. You are sorely missed on HexChat or on the Telegram group of Italian translators.

Thanks for the tip about the word “Collation”, I’ll check the pt-BR translation.

                          Thank you very much.

                          Olá caro Wallon.

You know that I like to compare my translations with other translations in other languages.

Eu também gosto de fazer isso, pois tornam os textos pt-BR muito mais ricos e compreensíveis, do que apenas tentar construir sozinho os textos a partir da tradução automática.

I think you should reduce your explanations. It’s really long. I will try to give a little more information but in a shorter way.

O anticapitalista disponibilizou um URL para o Robin no outro tópico, este URL me ajudou a encontrar uma versão mais recente do pacote locale-antix_0.1.3_all.deb. Eu consegui testar todos os textos e deixá-los bem ajustados na interface gráfica.

I think that anticapitalista has made a nice programme for us. I would have liked to test it even in English.

O programa já existe, por favor, clique no menu do antiX, Aplicativos, antiX, “Langue de l’utilisateur” (o menu deve estar com as suas traduções, pois o anticapitalista já disponibilizou o nosso arquivo .desktop nas atualizações). Abrirá uma janela de convite aos novos tradutores voluntários, clique no botão fechar, em seguida irá aparecer a janela do “locale-antix”, que também pode ser encontrado na pasta /usr/local/bin.

Thanks also to Robin for following us to better understand how Debian and antiX work.

É verdade, sem o Robin, eu não conseguiria compreender o que é siginifica a palavra “Fallback” no contexto da frase no programa.

Teamwork is the best way forward for translations.

Sim, você tem toda razão, com o trabalho em equipe, sempre obtemos resultados excelentes. Você faz muita falta no HexChat ou no grupo de Telegram dos tradutores italianos.

Obrigado pela dica sobre a palavra “Collation”, eu vou verificar a tradução pt-BR.

                          Muito obrigado.

Wallon, for you to test the translation you made in Transifex, download the file “for_use_antix-development_locale-antixpot_fr_BE.po” from Transifex.
Rename the file “for_use_antix-development_locale-antixpot_fr_BE.po” to “locale-antix.po”.
Open Terminal in the folder where the “locale-antix.po” file is and apply the commands below:

                            $ msgfmt locale-antix.po -o locale-antix.mo

                            $ sudo cp locale-antix.mo /usr/share/locale/fr_BE/LC_MESSAGES

Now run your “locale-antix” program that is in the menu, Applications, antiX, “Langue de l’utilisateur”. Check how your translation turned out. Every time you make changes to “locale-antix.po”, you will need to create another “locale-antix.mo” and copy it to the folder “/usr/share/locale/fr_BE/LC_MESSAGES” and rerun ” locale-antix” or “Langue de l’utilisateur”. The “locale-antix” program can be run directly from the /usr/local/bin folder.

I just realized today that the anticapitalista had made exactly the package “locale-antix_0.1.3_all.deb” available in the updates.

Sorry for the wrong information in the previous post.

                            – – – – –

Wallon, para você testar a tradução que você fez no Transifex, baixe o arquivo “for_use_antix-development_locale-antixpot_fr_BE.po” do Transifex.
                            Renomeie o arquivo “for_use_antix-development_locale-antixpot_fr_BE.po” para “locale-antix.po”.
Abra o Terminal na pasta onde está o arquivo “locale-antix.po” e aplique os comandos abaixo:

                            $ msgfmt locale-antix.po -o locale-antix.mo

                            $ sudo cp locale-antix.mo /usr/share/locale/fr_BE/LC_MESSAGES

                              What can I say?
All your commands work, it’s magic.
The whole program is in French.
I also congratulate the translator for the French of Belgium.
The program is very beautiful in French and it works well.
The blue icons with an i give an explanation every time.

You can also see the commands I used in the Terminal.
You can also see on the screenshot, that I used Rox Filer to open a Terminal in the Download directory. Anticapitalista must be happy that I used Rox Filer because I couldn’t figure out how to do it with zzzFM.

I think we can push the French translations into the distribution.

Thanks again to you my friend. You know a lot of things to make antiX work.
antiX is getting stronger and more beautiful.

                              Warm regards,

                              Cher Marcelocripe,

It’s beautiful to be able to see the programs with the translations. I know very well what this feeling of happiness feels like to be able to see your volunteer work at antiX. Now you will be able to check the best terms for each part of the program and write freely in the comment texts. Please pay close attention to the window that appears when you click on the “Localize Programs” button, it appears when the programs in your list have not yet been translated. The ideal is to do the tests with a LiveUSB.

I also congratulate the translator for the French of Belgium.

(Lots of laughter) Congratulations are for yourself… My friend, without you we wouldn’t have fr and fr_BE translated. Maybe one day we will have other French language translators, at least one from each country.

The whole program is in French.

I know what to say, you are sorely missed on HexChat.

…because I couldn’t figure out how to do it with zzzFM.

Access the folder where you downloaded the files with zzzFM, click on the File menu of zzzFM, Terminal or press the F4 key.

antiX is getting stronger and more beautiful.

I totally agree with you, “antiX is getting stronger and prettier” with the translations.

Ideally, we could test each of the translations before being packaged in .deb, but unfortunately this is not possible, as we would have to work full-time and together with programmers and developers. This is something we started to do through HexChat that makes conversations/communication a lot easier and the way we organize ourselves for each step to be achieved.

                                My greetings.

                                – – – – –

                                Caro Wallon.

All your commands work, it’s magic.

Thanks again to you my friend. You know a lot of things to make antiX work.

Não são meus comandos (risos), são comandos dos ensinamentos do Robin e do PPC. É por isso que eu sempre digo que você faz muita falta no HexChat, pois nós poderíamos estar aprendendo juntos.

The whole program is in French.

É lindo poder ver os programas com as traduções. Eu sei muito bem como é esta sensação de felicidade de poder ver o seu trabalho voluntário funcionado no antiX. Agora você poderá verificar os melhores termos para cada parte do programa e escrever a vontade nos textos de comentários. Por favor, dê bastante atenção a janela que surge quando você clica no botão “Localize Programs”, ela surge quando ainda não foram traduzidos os programas da sua lista. O ideal é fazer os testes com um LiveUSB.

I also congratulate the translator for the French of Belgium.

(Muitos risos) As congratulações são para você mesmo… Meu amigo, sem você não teríamos o fr e o fr_BE traduzido. Quem sabe um dia teremos outros tradutores do dioma Francês, pelo menos um de cada país.

                                What can I say?

Eu sei o que dizer, você faz muita falta no HexChat.

…because I couldn’t figure out how to do it with zzzFM.

Acesse a pasta que você baixou os arquivos com o zzzFM, clique no menu Arquivo do zzzFM, Terminal ou pressione a tecla F4.

antiX is getting stronger and more beautiful.

Eu concordo plenamente com você, “o antiX está ficando mais forte e mais bonito” com as traduções.

O ideal seria se pudéssemos testar cada uma das traduções antes de serem empacotadas para .deb, mas infelizmente isso não é possível, pois teríamos que trabalhar em tempo integral e em conjunto com os programadores e desenvolvedores. Isso é algo que começamos a fazer por meio do HexChat que facilita muito as conversas/comunicação e a forma de como nos organizamos para cada etapa ser alcançada.

                                Meus cumprimentos.

                                  Dear Marcelocripe,

Thanks to you, I found in zzzFM how to open a terminal in a subdirectory.

In the menu bar at the top of the window,
                                  File
In the window that opens, there is the option “Terminal root”.

                                  That’s great, thanks to you.

                                  Warm regards,
                                  Wallon

                                  Cher Marcelocripe,

Grâce à toi, j’ai trouvé dans zzzFM comment ouvrir un terminal dans un sous-répertoire.

Dans la barre du menu en haut de la fenêtre,
                                  Fichier
Dans la fenêtre qui s’ouvre, il y a l’option “Terminal root”.

                                  C’est super, merci à toi.

                                  Bien à toi,
                                  Wallon
