anticapitalista: antiX transifex pt-pt files seem to be locked.
I’m bilingual, so using an system in english or a parcially localized one does not bother me, but recently, dealing with a brazilian user, it came to my attention that something are localized in pt-br but not in pt-pt: namely, and for me, something that sticks out: gksu “enter password” field is in English, in pt-pt. I copied the brasilian .mo files to the pt folder and it works great- despite the language differences[in pt-Br they use “senha”, and we use “password”, and they say “aplicativo” and we say “aplicação” or “program”]- the translated gksu field helps portuguese users understand why they need to enter the password.Other things that I offer help on localizing, if possible:
-the GUI application to change screen resolution
-the GUI application to eject usb drives (I even altered our current one, making it look a bit more integrated with the OS and even easier to use, if you want, I can sent that your way)
– some spacefm entries are not localized – is that on the apps’s end or is there something we can do on antiX’s side?
– out excellent “app installer” – the interface is localized, but is there a way of, at least, localize the categories too? IF possible, I offer my help in localizing also the apps’s descriptions…
– the set time and date script is not localized, not at least in pt-ptBasically anything that springs in transifex, I can try help translating…
antiX seems to be taking off in Brazil- solving this minor localization glitches would be great, because not many people there understand English…

::Be nice if we could exchange some information on translation, to to plenty of need in German too,
As schools are closing for some weeks I can, I think, get expert assistance from a couple of native
speaker users too. I am self taught in German so assistance is a help at times. I also mean what is
known as High German from Germany.November 27, 2020 at 1:48 pm #45943Moderator

::Good localization of many languages is the key to wider use of antiX and Linux software.
Anyone who is multilingual is always welcome. We lack complete, accurate translation of many languages. It truly does take volunteer efforts from many people to advance the work. If you have the skills please help. Thanks!

::I don’t know if you have to become a member of a translation group/team for you to be able to edit the “Revised/approved” strings.
Maybe someone with authoraty and experience with transifex can explain what is going on.

::Any poor or non-existent translations of non antiX apps will have to be ‘fixed’ upstream.
All the apps we translate can be found over at transifex.Philosophers have interpreted the world in many ways; the point is to change it.

::Thanks for clarification,
for now I wanted to get an idea how the po files are made up, then discuss the present situation
with some of the kids before we start diving in to deep water. I also want to take a look at translations
in a couple of other popular distros, especialy manjaro which is very popular with German users. Maybe a
buntu variant too, if I can stand it for a few hours.
No good confusing users if some kind of de facto standard exists within menu structures. -
