I made a few .desktop files for some .appimage programs, put them in my personal menu & now it won’t open. It just shows the line like in this video… any ideas?

Without having seen your video, some hints.

1.) Try to find out which of your desktop files causes the trouble by removing them again and adding them one by one.
2.) Check the culprit for any errors. They must follow precisely the freedesktop.org specs. https://specifications.freedesktop.org/desktop-entry-spec/desktop-entry-spec-latest.html
Most common errors are forbidden characters or non existent paths to executables.
And be aware the keys are case sensitive. E.g. Name= is not the same as name=, the latter is not recognised. Same goes for all other entries.

Good luck for bug hunting. (You could post your .desktop files, using the “code” tags, so somebody could look into them, maybe the error is easily to be found)

Windows is like a submarine. Open a window and serious problems will start.

Hi trashthrasher, if you use the menu maintenance tool from controll center the personal menu starter files will be automagicaly
          generated correctly.

I have used the method probably hundred or more times with only a couple of fails, second try worked. Seemed Icon issue, was
presumably already in usage by another application.

Use personal menu tool show application, choose any,
Change name to the one you want
Change path to point to your application
mark use another icon, continue, after a moment you will be asked to choose an icon
          do so
Icons are generaly located in /usr/share/icons or in case of appimage often in the packed application.
          continue
          Let the tool finish

          Enjoy antiX

Alright, I was doing a bit of config file work & somehow the file for the personal menu became blank, but I’ve managed to reset the programs in the menu. Thanks & I think we can consider this “solved”.

            Thanks for the tips!!!

This is the format that I used that worked for Tenacity
