      Hi, I’m new to this system. My old computer was originally windows vista 32bit, switched to puppy 32bit and so I thought I would try the antix 64bit. The live part run clean, not as nice as the 32bit but sadly its getting alot harder to find support for 32 (which is why I tried 64).
      I find the set up a lot cleaner and organized then puppy, but I’m finding myself with alot of questions;
      On the live, there didn’t seem to be much software to install, does this change with a full install?
      With puppy you had to have .pet programs, what does this one take?
      Can you download and install programs from somewhere else? (couldn’t find wine on the list)
      When I tried to find my printer, it said it couldn’t connect to cups.
      And is there anything I need to know about doing a full install and getting rid of puppy?
      And there are my starting questions.

        A full install definitely makes a LOT of software available. You should be able to find most, if not all, that you may want with antiX.

        Package format is with .deb packages by default. The “Package Installer” (synaptic for GUI packaging, apt for command packaging, will get you more than enough. Once you install, you should be able to see plenty.

          It would be helpful to hear which puppy variant you’re comparing (LXPup? Slacko32? AtomicPup?)
          and which live antiX edition (core? base? full?)

          sounds like: during your live testdrive, you just didn’t know how/where to look.
          antiX is a Debian derivative. Installable software is downloaded as *.deb packagefiles
          (not identical to .pet packagefiles, but similar)
          and, even during livesession, a catalog of 30,000 thousands of installable packages is available.

          To find and install packaged software, from within an antiX desktop session you can launch “synaptic” or “packageinstaller” (these provide a GUI)

          From commandline — or even tty, no Xsession required, several additional package installation tools are available. (Let’s skip discussing those for now, until hearing whether you’re comfortable using, prefer using an xsession environment)

            I forgot how to spell the puppy I was using, which is why I didn’t add it, but since it might be helpful I looked it up;
            Puppy (tahrpup 6.0.5 32bit)
            antiX Full 64bit

            Another question I have is how often do you get updates? I’ve had tahrpup for a good year or so and its never updated.

              If you choose to follow “stable” repositories, expect to see a few each week.
              If you choose to follow “testing”, generally (not now, amidst the debian9-}debian10 transistion freeze, though) you can expect to find many (sometimes dozens) updated items each week ~~ especially if you’ve installed a large number of applications.

                I’ve never heard of Xsession. Puppy was my first linux system ever and I always felt lost and confused.
                I did look under the packageinstaller and there was only a couple handfuls of programs.
                I’m glad its not .pet they are to hard to find.

                  Oh my gosh I’m trying the install and I have no idea what to put for keyboard layout…

                  I have no number keys on the side…not sure how to tell.
                  so I counted all the keys on my keyboard and I only have 86

                    Hi, SolusUmbra, the complete debian-software is available on antiX
                    https://wiki.debian.org/Software
                    You can install it through synaptic or packageinstaller or with terminal

                    Can you download and install programs from somewhere else? (couldn’t find wine on the list)

                    Easiest way to install wine is
                    sudo apt-get install wine
                    For installing the 32-Bit-Wineprefix
                    sudo dpkg --add-architecture i386 && sudo apt-get update && sudo apt-get install wine32

                    When I tried to find my printer, it said it couldn’t connect to cups.

                    Did you try this through controlcenter~~>hardware~~>Printer Setup ?

                    And is there anything I need to know about doing a full install and getting rid of puppy?

                    Just do a install on the entire hard disk

                      control center — hardware—- printer
                      Then its says to connect, connect to CUPS server (name) I leave it as localhost;
                      CUPS server Error
                      there was an error during the CUPS operation; failed to connect to server.

                      There is also an option to start service but its grayed out and I can’t click on it.

                      Note printer is wireless.

                          Not sure what option to pick for keyboard layout, is it really important?
