      I hate the LXterminal
I’m trying to figure out how to make a desktop icon to start gnome terminal.
To start it I click menu, run, gnome-terminal, then click ok.
Can someone tell me step by step how to make an icon on the desktop to start gnome terminal.
I installed gnome terminal with sudo apt install gnome-terminal but it did not add a menu application item.

When you installed the gnome-terminal package, installation should have placed a file here:

        .

        edit: the .desktop launcher file:
        gksu leafpad /usr/share/applications/org.gnome.Terminal.desktop

        remove the line OnlyShowIn=Gnome
save the file, close the editor, then use the “Update Menus” command available in the menu.

          Ok tried all that.
I know the file works, use FM to go to and right click and execute the “/usr/share/applications/org.gnome.Terminal.desktop” file it opens.
when I do the “gksu leafpad /usr/share/applications/org.gnome.Terminal.desktop” as you show the file is blank.
I’ve tried -i root in LX terminal, same thing. I’ve tried about everything I could think of..
But here is what I found worked and was much easier….

Used SpaceFM to get to /usr/share/applications/org.gnome.Terminal.desktop right clicked it, choose Edit, scrolled to Copy To, then choose Location.
Then save it to home/Desktop. Wala worked and I could drag it onto the desktop and rename it Terminal from there.
Thanks I would not have found it unless you told me where to find the desktop files though.
          Many thanks.

Yes, what also works is, just move it with left-click pressed down, from SpaceFm or rox, to desktop.
