      Sorry to be so thick but overwhelmed by choices and menus. All I want is to get rid of the folder icons and see details view. Please would you point me to the correct options for making the details view permanent.

        Which file manager? Rox or spacefm?

            For rox-filer, right-click on any empty space and click on “Options…”
            On the left pane, select “Display”. Then, on the right side of the Options window, change “View type” to “List View” and tick the “Show extended attribute indicator”
            Click OK, close all rox-filer instances and relaunch rox-filer.
            If you don’t like that specific view, you can go to Options again and edit to your satisfaction.

            Anything changed in options will change for rox-filer globally.
