      The problem was that the alsamixer was always set to hdmi as the default sound card
      instead of the internal intel audio. A reboot is required after saving the file.

      Creating this file as root user

      /etc/modprobe.d/50-alsa.conf

      with this line made it the default

      options snd_hda_intel index=1,0

          you are welcome, It was a problem for me for some time on my laptops. Finally
          got it working and thought it could help others out.
