I just want to play KOF 98 (old fighting video game), but I don’t know how to use Mame; I install GNOME Video Arcade, and after, I try to launch some game …
So I have favorite NINTENDO Entertainment System (PAL) and Mega Drive (Europe, PAL); but no game… He said take “cardbridge” and after nothing with the game list I have this bug :
The software selected is missing one or more required rom or CHD images, Please select a different one.
I don’t know why MAME have a long game list, and all game we can’t play ? Does I need download a package or another software ? I know some old game is an abandonware…
I read some link for that :
– https://ertugrulharman.com/en/2017/08/28/how-to-install-and-use-mame-on-linux-debian/

The documentation explains it clearly. To understand, please read https://wiki.mamedev.org/index.php/FAQ:ROMs

Regarding “abandonware”, that issue (and the associated wishful thinking, rationalization) is mentioned in the linked FAQ page.
Your other questions are probably all addressed within the various FAQ pages

If not, the Mame support forum is here: https://forums.bannister.org/ubbthreads.php?ubb=postlist&Board=1November 10, 2020 at 5:44 pm #44761Anonymous

Even with a ROM onhand, often one must have the ROM’s assiciated CHD file…
and must run the “verifyrom” command to ensure the ROM is compatible with version XX of Mame. -
