There is an irritating problem with the menu update/generation process. Unfortunately beyond my
knowledge/capability to offer a fix.Issue: Recently my menu settings were not respected during a minor update. Shown Items set to hidden
i now know the same happened to other users, not reported until I asked for a check because
they only use our standard toolbar shortcut setup.A few days ago another user (Xecure,PPC?) mentioned having a similar issue after installing a
software package.Yesterday I installed LO 7.1 Dev. Beta testing version, my user settings in the menu were again
not respected many previously shown items changed to hidden or not set.For me annoying, I knew there is a tool in the controll center, for a new user quite a high obstacle.
As a guest, Forum search for menu issues gave me no hits, only word press errors. Would a new user
register to ask in the forum, give up linux or back to mint or buntu ?, for many I hope at least the
latter. Not the aim though.Using the menu configuration tool: the tooltip says select one or more items, without holding the Strg
key only one item can be selected, that was not figured out by test user who is pretty bright but not a
computer freak.
My suggestion would be to include “hold Strg key to select multiple items” in the selection screen tooltip.November 28, 2020 at 1:05 pm #45979ModeratorBobC
::What particular menu item did you change to hidden?
My theory is that the .desktop file for that application might have been replaced by updates.

::What BobC says – place any altered desktop entries in ~/.local/share/applications/. They should override any other entries.
There is nothing antiX can do if upstream forces an overwrite of desktop entries under /usr/share/applications

::Hallo BobC, anticapitalista, background info. This issue is worrying me.
problem is not what I had set to hidden, many of the items installed by the antiX packet installer
and some standards from 19.3 dissapeared. Until first occurence on 14.11.2020 no menu breakage issues were encountered. In this latest case during LO dev installation the menu entrys for LO 7.0.3-1 were removed, no other changes had been made which would have affected menus during the last week or so.
Entfernen von libreoffice7.0-debian-menus (7.0.3-1) …For the first occurence about two weeks ago the log showed
Could this be the culprit for changes, only logical candidateTrigger für desktop-file-utils (0.23-4) werden verarbeitet .
First time it happened i wrote
last update reworked menus, hid some normaly shown applications, My starters in personal menu dissapeared.
Other applications such as badwolf and leafpad no longer shown.Anticapitalista answered my query with.
There was nothing in the updates that would rewrite the main menu. herbstluftwm got updated though, but it should not have done anything to IceWM menu.Regarding: What BobC says – place any altered desktop entries in ~/.local/share/applications/. They should override any other entries.
There is nothing antiX can do if upstream forces an overwrite of desktop entries under /usr/share/applications.
So if a new user installs applications with the antix installer that would mean he would be expected to know his menu entrys might get broken during a minor update, figure out how to move them to to home and do so before anything breaks.
If this problem is likely to be triggered on unsuspecting users by upstream changes, at any time the only safe way I can see to counter that is an automagicaly created ~/.local/share/applications/
which must be automaticaly updated if software is changed in some way or user changes menu structure with the controll center tool.If this makes kids computers let them down at this crisis and in the middle of critical exams they will all be forced back to booting windows and using office 365. Not something i want to see.

::Please tell us exactly how you ‘reworked’ the menus.
Did you just make changes to the Personal entry in the main menu via Personal Menu Editor?
Or did you use Menu Manager?
Thanks- This reply was modified 2 years, 5 months ago by anticapitalista. Reason: added another question

::Menu Manger from the control center was used for all recent show, hide changes.
Most original changes were also made with that tool, in majority of cases months ago.
The last addition Unggogled Chromium made using the add to personal menu tool, a couple
of weeks after first breakage. If I remember correctly either Xecure or PPC mentioned this kind of issue in an unrelated
post a few days ago.
Edit:
Just checking showed my personal menu applications have been automagically inserted in
/home/username/.local/share/applications/TCM/Question is, as a temporary measure how can I insert the most important items from the normal
menu to mitigate risk of daily use essentials getting hidden or broken.Next major risk seems likely sometime early next year when LO updates to 7.0.1, as that brings some
improved compatibility to MS formats I will have to push it, reason why I installed the dev version.
As soon as a safer Beta is out it can, I hope be installed in parallell for some student testing.- This reply was modified 2 years, 5 months ago by ModdIt.

::@Moddlt – I see the issue now and can reproduce this behaviour.
Seems like bugs in Menu Manager and Personal Menu Editor.Short-term fix. Put all your changes in ~/.local/share/applications
If you choose to edit Applications, once you have finished making your changes, copy the desktop file from /user/share/applications(/antix) to ~/.local/share/applications
Any upstream upgrades to the desktop file in /user/share/applications(/antix) will(should) be ignored.

On this page –
https://www.antixforum.com/under the “Announcements” box is a “Register” box. Under that is a “Search Forums” entry box followed by a “Search” button. If you use that search entry box you will get good results. There is another search tool on the menu but it doesn’t work on the forum. I’ve had that problem. The WordPress software has a search tool but don’t use it. Use the search tool provided on the first page of the forum as described above.

::@seaken64, Thanks for caring and the assistance,
seems what I tried to communicate was not understandable enough.I did use the correct search box but was presented with errors, I do frequently
use forum search. I think we all find it somewhat clunky or picky regarding search terms.Back in context I was
trying to convey the frustration that a new user with the recurring dissapearing menu
entry issue, trying to find information and failing. The root of the problem is located, the temporary fix tested, it works.
once the bug is squashed I can add solved.
