Can you share your hardware info with us?

        Type:

        inxi -Fxz

into a terminal and then copy and paste here into the forum.

Is the microphone part of a headset? Built in to the computer (like a laptop)? Or a separate wired microphone. Powered? Batteries?

Looks like this is a notebook, since there is a battery charge symbol in tray.

In some notebooks the recording and line-in is handled via a different sound adapter, e.g. as part of a tv module. In this case you will have to figure what additional drivers are needed (eg. for an SAA7134 Chip or something similar). But even when everything is handled by the HDA-Intel sound device, the names displayed by alsa are sometimes wrong (if the driver doesn’t report them correctly).

A good point to start from is How to record from Mic input and How to test sound card.

And maybe you want to check and post the output of
          alsa-info
from within a command line window (terminal-emulator).

Windows is like a submarine. Open a window and serious problems will start.

Hi joaopaulo, on your screenshots there are some channels muted. Those with the MM under the bars.
On the second screenshot in particular the one for the micro. Please first try to unmute these channels by pressing the key m.

@joaopaulo – since you are new at antiX, here’s a more detailed explanation of what you should try to do to follow caprea’s advice and porbably solve your problem:
              – Go to sound card configuration window, that you showed us on your pictures.
              – Using the right and left arrow keys, select the “Mic” (this means “Mic” should be the color red) and then press the “M” key once. The “MM” on “Mic” should disappear and a number should appear in it’s place). This should unmute the Microphone. You can then change it’s volume to any value you want, using the up and down arrow keys.

Also- we do have a Portuguese part of the forum, you can post your questions there in portuguese!

              P.

Looks like this is a notebook, since there is a battery charge symbol in tray.

Robin, you noticed very well. I hadn’t realized this when João posted these same images on the Telegram group. It is important that it shows us the result of the commands “inxi -Fxz” (João, always post the result of this command when asking for help in this forum) and the “alsa-info” (I didn’t know this one or I don’t remember) so that we can confirm if you need to use the F6 key to select the other sound card in the AlsaMixer – Audio Mixer program window (pt-BR adaptation).

I didn’t know the procedures that PPC and Robin taught us, that’s why, João, as I always write in the groups, any doubts that you can’t get satisfactory answers through the Telegram group created by k@k@r0t0, should come to this forum, as your question or difficulty will serve others in the future.

Thank you for creating this topic, we will learn together and in the future you will be able to help others.

                    Hi joaopaulo,

(May be a duplicate message. Didn’t see it after I submitted and then I was no longer logged in.)

I see that PulseAudio is set as the active sound server. Have you tried using pavucontrol to unmute the microphone?

I recently stumbled upon a command

                      sudo hdajacksensetest -a

maybe it could help you to detect whether your mic is sensed and where?

Hi, joaopaulo – Just saying “not worked” does not explain much. Exactly what did you try that didn’t work?… The post right before the one where you said that? Did you see any error?
Did you try to unmute the mic like caprea and I advised? If you did try that- did’t the “MM” on the Mic disappear?

                              In portuguese:
Todas as sugetões anteriores? Exatamente o que não funcionou? Surgiu algum erro?

                              P.

ADDENDUM: Do you have BOTH PulseAudio AND Pipewire installed? If so, I would remove one or the other.

                                  Hi joaopaulo,

                                  A couple of other things:

                                  (1) Your mic boost is set very high. I saw a post in the Linux Mint forum where the problem of a muted microphone was fixed after DECREASING the mic boost to less than 51. (On my system, both mic and mic boost are set at 53.)

                                  (2) A thread on a ubuntu forum (https://askubuntu.com/questions/259671/cant-unmute-with-alsamixer) provided the following solution:

“By using the Pulseaudio Command Line Interface we will get the index of available sinks

                                  pacmd list-sinks

We then can unmute the sink with

                                  pacmd set-sink-mute <index> 0”

If this works, but the problem returns with each reboot, then doing “sudo alsactl store” after fixing it may make it permanent.

                                  hope those help.
