      Hi!

I have tried Antix, both 19.3. and 21, on several occasions.
      On thing puts me off.
Everyting else works just fine, but my dongle is not recognized as such.
The system thinks it is a CD, but there it is. It’s not recognized as a modem.
I’ve tried to use modemmanager, which helped on another distro.
      Nope. Not on Antix.
After poking around on the net I learned how to identify it.
      It’s a Huawei E353 modem.

      Any suggestions anyone??

Our chrystall ball is sent in for repair recently, so please let us know what type of connection and system we are talking about.

1.) Let us know your inxi output (e.g. from antiX control center)
2.) What type of connection does your dongle use? Is it a Firewire, parallel port, RS232 or USB or what else?
        3.) What does the command
        dmesg | tail -n 60
show you immediately after having plugged your device.
Depending on the findings from these commands you’ll need to perform additional checks, like e.g. lsusb or lsmod to find out which drivers have been loaded for the device.
Only knowing about these details we can try to help.

Windows is like a submarine. Open a window and serious problems will start.

Hi Robin, still unable to put my answer here because forum blocks me.
I sent a PM to the poster pointing him to a howto,

The modem is a USB dongle, it has to be put in to the correct mode, usualy using the device interface to be recognised.
otherwise it shows up as storage only, often as a cd.
I will try again to post, was furious yesterday. First came post is spam then I had posted too often on the forum.

All longer term members know background, what and why but it is very frustrating all the same.

Yesterday unable to post… This was sent as as PM to the poster foringmar

Maybe the instructions on below site will help, seems you need to switch the device in to modem mode.

I have tried modem manager, which works on other distributions, like q4os. It does find the modem on Antix. First it ask for PIN. Thats normal,
Then it says “modem must be enabled to connect to internet. Please enable modem”. Clicking on “Enable” does absolutely nothing.

“modem must be enabled to connect to internet. Please enable modem”

Which is explained in detail for your device on the site I linked to, which by the way took less than 2 minutes to find using a search engine.
When you have followed the instructions on that site you should have a working connection..

If you read your long post you can see that the system keeps switching between modem and mass storage for the dongle.
