I hope someone has a quick answer to this one.

      Running AntiX 21, kernel 4.9.0-279, Rox/Icewm.

I’ve been looking for an easier to see mouse pointer on my too-high-res screen. In Puppy I’ve used “whitelarge,” which was OK. I found it on Gnome Look. Extracted the whitelarge directory and moved it to /usr/share/icons.

Indeed, Control Centre -> Customize Look and Feel -> Mouse Cursor now lists Whitelarge.

When I select it and hit Apply, it displays the cursor I’m looking for, but only over the desktop background, It’s not in any programs that I’ve tried.

Worse, after I log out and back in, the pointer is back to DMZ Black.

I seem to be “stuck” on DMZ Black.

Control Centre -> Customize Look and Feel -> Mouse Cursor *says* that the cursor theme is Whitelarge.

And in fact, selecting Centre -> Customize Look and Feel -> Mouse Cursor seems to “remind” X that that’s the cursor I want.

Then I see the nice big white cursor on nthe desktop again – but again not in any programs. In the programs, it’s *still* DMZ Black.

And the next time I log in or reboot, the DMZ Black mouse cursor is back even over the desktop background.

How can I force X to use my chosen mouse cursor theme immediately and universally?

      Thanks!

        SOLVED:

Two changes. Hard to say for sure which change was key, but the cursor theme now stays with what I choose.

        1. More likely to have been the actual fix: added the file /usr/share/icons/whitelarge/index.theme file to the downloaded cursor theme. It didn’t include one as downloaded, so I followed the example of another index.theme in /usr/share/icons.

        2. Less likely: Edited ~/.icons/default/index.theme (the file that says “# This file is written by LXAppearance. Do not edit.”). Changed Name=Default to Name=whitelarge.

After running Control Centre -> Customize Look and Feel -> Mouse Cursor and selecting whitelarge again, I now have the requested cursor theme.

I that hope this helps someone else stuck in a similar place.
