Hi, recently my PC experienced mouse freeze in ‘rox-icewm’ when browsing using ‘chromium’ in antiX-21 with testing repositories.
It is possible to left/right-click, scroll but the cursor position is fixed approximately in the geometric center of the screen.
I managed to open main menu (via pressing the windows key or right click after closing all windows, chromium and volume control, via Alt+F4).
      – ‘Restart session’, ‘Reboot’, ‘sudo pkill X11’ failed to unfreeze the mouse.
      – Shut down and start again worked.

Output of ‘inxi -Fxzr’ and the ‘~/.desktop-session/*log*’ of session of the affected user (not me but my PC) that failed attached.
The PC is not that old; on the other hand, the 4:3 flat monitor is definitely more retro.

Not sure if this is applicable in my case, hence I haven’t tried it yet; ‘xserver-xorg-legacy’ not installed.

PS/For your consideration: I post this from ‘firefox’ (opened via keyboard shortcuts and) navigated (it) using the extension ‘tridactyl’ (it sure comes handy in this case!).

Might the Xorg.0.log gives a hint. What about another kernel?

Hi, caprea, thanks for your reply.

I rebooted to 4.19.0-222 when the issue happened again and it did not disappear by switching to another kernel.

I checked the sensor of the mouse at the bottom side – it was dark/”blind”, i.e. no light as if there is a bad contact.
I switched it off by pulling from the USB slot and I reinserted it – and it works now.
It did not occur to me to try this yesterday (few bad night sleeps in a row but it got better the last night).

Which widens the potential cause of the troubles:
          1) Mouse issue:
The USB mouse is a new Genius, hence I hope it being faulty to be rather unlikely.

          2) USB slot issue:
Could be a bad contact in the USB slot (either male or female part), e.g. dust.

          3) Software:
I consider it more and more unlikely.

I explored the Xorg.0.log and found nothing relevant.
Since the issue no longer seems to be to stem from software, I will observe it and if it does not reappear after cleaning the USB contacts, I will (ask a moderator to) mark it as solved.

            Hi sybok,

Best, fastest diagnosis use another mouse and go through available ports. If all ok,
change the battery, should it have one that is and try again.

Very fed up with mouse failures, worst of late Logitech. Happy with below, nicely made and good to use.
