I found that most of the puppy Linux versions (which did not work with Ventoy) did work with the MultiBootUSB, so for the most part, at this point the problem is solved for at least simple testing. Not too many work with Persistence, but the good thing is that I can at least run the distro’s to see what programs and features they include, or to be able to test programs to see if they work the same as expected.

I know your topic is about multiboot on USB drive. But when you mentioned checking out different distros to see what they include it reminds me of what I do on some of my old machines. I have one in particular, a P-III with two hard drives for a total of 250GB. I install these different distros to the hard drives and use Grub to handle the booting. I have about 15 distros on this one machine.

I do have one USB drive that I have multibooting antiX 32-bit, antiX 64-bit, and MX 64-bit. I used the default Syslinux boot files. I use it as my pocket troubleshooter. I can boot on any machine in either 32 or 64 bit.

I loved that thread on the MX forum. I’ve used that “recipe” to do the same thing. I’ve even added puppy linux, buster dog linux, slax, porteus, and tiny core linux to test them out. (I ended up removing them all after the novelty wore off.) Some are trickier than others to get them to boot, because they don’t use antiX/MX’s boot parameters. But it was fun to figure out…

I see all the latest FreeBSD’s have been picked up by the latest Ventoy.

But thing is not to get too concerned about the ext2 filesystem, as that is really only meant to be used for Ventoy’s own purpose of storing and launching the iso’s.

The idea is to use Ventoy solely as a distro installation-launcher, where one puts the “real thing” on some other filesystem using that multiboot stick.

If one does desire to use Ventoy as a working environment, then unless your distro fully supports ext2 out of the box, set up persistence on some other physically different filesystem format.

            Interesting times.

ExFAT (the default) was getting errors, and so did NTFS, and so that forced me to use EXT2 or EXT4. Ext4 wasn’t recognized sometimes, leaving only Ext2.

My system is modified, so maybe the ExFAT problems are due to something I installed.
