If you are interested in finding a better looking (new) cli tool to perform most apt terminal functions Nala is worth a look. I have installed and run it successfully to perform my most common tasks successfully on PeppermintOS (Debian) and MXLinux (non-systemd Debian). Here’s a link to the development site and software.

        Thanks for this manyroads,

I’ll have to check it out. I like that it downloads in parallel and uses
        colored output.
here is the gitlab link for those that want to clone and build it.

I grabbed the image by adding a repo and installed the nala app.

It’s command based but it’s simple and clean to use. It also has a feature to examine the various repo mirror sites and select the most responsive one (it chose a good one for me and allowed me, at my command, to utilize it). Nice!

It’s command-based, but it’s a breeze to use. It also offers a function that allows you to compare different repo mirror sites and choose the best responsive one.
