So, my Arthur Schopenhauer/Kshama Sawant idea didn’t go down too well last time. But I think that Antix 17 has a very appropriate and better name than I would have though of, very revolutionary!
Here are my ideas for Antix 18 names
Antix 18 Cornel West https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cornel_West – A fine gentleman and a scholar whose ideas of radical compassion for all and radical democracy for all would inspire anyone with an open mind.
Antix 18 Rosa Luxemburg https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rosa_Luxemburg – Martyr for Social Democracy (socialism) who had the nerve to challenge Lenin and orthodox Marxist ideology head-on
Antix 18 Jacques Ranciére https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jacques_Ranci%C3%A8re – Post-marxist political theorist and philosopher (because orthodoxy doesn’t pay if you are an independent thinker. Independent thought is always commendable compared to ideological slavery). He would definitely be my pick.Much like a history class, I know on the antix forums one does not get credit for originality in thoughts and opinions, but nonetheless I lay my cards on the table.
What do you think? What should be the new Antix Linux name?

::I wish I could take back the Rosa Luxemburg idea because I read some more of her stuff and she’s a lot more orthodox (read: ideologically enslaved) than I thought. Still doesn’t mean she deserved to be murdered, but also doesn’t mean she deserves a distro named after her. Also she spoke of sharks in a negative light which is totally uncool man. I would sooner give a shark a hug than her 🦈 🦈 🦈 🦈 but I guess that makes me a “petty bourgeois revisionist” or something. I hate humanity. And yet I’m a social worker. Go figure.

Not bad my friend, not bad. I wish I could go back and edit the poll to add her and remove Luxemburg.

::Good ideas for people who have made a difference. You know, sometimes we don’t always agree about everything, but one thing that I really admire about nearly everyone who visits here, and DEFINITELY the leadership, is that we tend to be more civil, cooperative, understanding and helpful than most forum groups, even in the Linux space, where at times more arguments that are NOT useful and constructive – meaning that name calling and other immature acts take place instead of constructive criticism about issues that may actually be relevant – as long as immature name calling and slander is kept out.
I applaud people here for being articulate, helpful, genuinely fostering freedom and innovation – even if we’re not “inventing” something completely new. What I think we do exceptionally well here is offer a flexible, efficient user and development platform that can be used either by really hard core enthusiasts or just plugged in, installed and used as is. The antiX variations along with the MX cousins do a superb job in every respect.
Congratulations to both the development team and the user community for making all of this possible – a long time user and occasional helper for well over a decade, Truly yours, Brian Masinick

::@masinick indeed. Cheers to the antix community. They are much more supportive and much less confrontational than the likes of askubuntu or ubuntuforums, which I often find myself having to rely on in times of desperation. But I always find myself dreading it.
Here’s a brilliant article that Our Brother Cornel West has released for the Guardian that may shift the tide in his favor:

::This thread made me want to look up the earlier names of the distro and I must say, one I find especially troubling and churns my stomach. Together with one of the propositions here, it makes me want to quit antiX right away. Which I will. It just gives me an uneasy feeling. Too bad, cause I liked this distro a lot.
