Seven billion dollar human. Gennady Padalka (Russian: Гeннадий Иванович Падалка) has been in space more days than any other human. A conservative estimate of the price of backing, support for this Cosmonaut during space travel at one-third million dollars per hour for the record 878 days is over seven billion dollars. He uses linux at the workplace.
Placing the name Gennady Padalka on the antix distribution will highlight the global cooperation of this accomplishment and honor the personal strength, sacrifice, and dedication of this space travel technician.June 3, 2018 at 3:57 pm #10659Member

::I just wanted to say how proud I am to champion antiX and never mention the distro without referring to Heather Heyer. Fantastic choice of name Anti!
After watching a documentary last night can I humbly suggest Shiori Ito to you for the next release.
Cheers all!

Between social reforms and revolution there exists for the social democracy an indissoluble tie. The struggle for reforms is its means; the social revolution, its aim.

“One can never consent to creep when one feels an impulse to soar.” -Helen Keller
The antiX adopting persona Helen Keller was a double surprise; not just for her own spirit, development, meritorious conclusions, but also for the example of the student being the vessel for the teacher.
“The teacher … leads you to the threshold of your mind.” -Khalil Gibran
Will it be explained? What prompted The choice of Helen Keller?

::Good ideas for people who have made a difference. You know, sometimes we don’t always agree about everything, but one thing that I really admire about nearly everyone who visits here, and DEFINITELY the leadership, is that we tend to be more civil, cooperative, understanding and helpful than most forum groups, even in the Linux space, where at times more arguments that are NOT useful and constructive – meaning that name calling and other immature acts take place instead of constructive criticism about issues that may actually be relevant – as long as immature name calling and slander is kept out.
I applaud people here for being articulate, helpful, genuinely fostering freedom and innovation – even if we’re not “inventing” something completely new. What I think we do exceptionally well here is offer a flexible, efficient user and development platform that can be used either by really hard core enthusiasts or just plugged in, installed and used as is. The antiX variations along with the MX cousins do a superb job in every respect.
Congratulations to both the development team and the user community for making all of this possible – a long time user and occasional helper for well over a decade, Truly yours, Brian Masinick
Just to bring back to attention the important words from Brian Masinick…
Personally (IMHO as I do not mean to trigger some strong political opinions) I think decision on codenames of antiX releases should be left solely to antiX creators…Live antiX Boot Options (Previously posted by Xecure):

::I’m with olsztyn on this one.
I think that naming should be left up to the builders and creators
to consider and decide upon. But input is always helpful.IMHO I like the sound of
antiX-18 "Mencius (Meng Ke)"Also just to mention capitalization of the letters is important for thread naming
and discussions. If the A is capital or small and if the X is gives different results

::What prompted The choice of Helen Keller?
Helen Keller has been a hero of mine for a long time. Not because of the adversity she faced but because of her attitude and approach to life as expressed in her writings. Although I imagine her adversity helped form her attitudes.
Recently the State of Texas tried to remove all mention of Helen Keller (and some other prominent women/woman) from their history books. This may be because they don’t like her politics. she was a co-founder of the ACLU and she was prominent in the movements for socialism and communism. See, for example, Helen Keller Reference Archive.
For a brief introduction I recommend her short essay How I Became a Socialist. I grew up in Schenectady and I never knew of its Socialist past until I found out about it in relation to Helen Keller. This was after I already greatly admired what she had to say. I found out about her political views late perhaps because they have been partially hidden.
Maybe using her name in one of our releases will encourage a few people to look at the parts of her story that seem to be mostly expunged from our Disneyfied history. It makes me feel sad that she seems to be mostly known for overcoming her disabilities and not for her shining character and her attempts to make the world a much better place for everyone. I think this is the exact opposite of what she would have wanted.
Whether you agree with her politics or not, she has many wonderful and wise things to say that I find greatly inspiring independent of any handicaps she had.

::Just to add to what BitJam posted.
BitJam had suggested Helen Keller as a release name a few years ago and I agreed with him, but the name sort of got substituted.
Once he reminded me again and in the context of the decision by the State of Texas to remove her from history, it was a no-brainer to release antiX-17.2 and later with her name.On a more personal note.
My grandmother was born deaf and mute, and she spent her life challenging and fighting against all prejudice.
She had been inspired by Helen Keller – a woman who wanted to make the world better for all.Philosophers have interpreted the world in many ways; the point is to change it.
antiX with runit - leaner and meaner.

::Not too far from the border with the US there was an uprising in 1892 in what is now Tomochi. A friend of mine spends part of the year there. Most of the people are indigenous and a lot of the indigenous lifestyle remains. The modern world is fast encroaching but a lot of the bonds and simplicity of the older ways remain.
