I need some help upgrading my old PC.
When I run:
sudo apt-get update sudo apt-get upgradeI am told nothing needs to be upgraded and some packages were held back. see below.
sudo apt-get upgrade Reading package lists... Done Building dependency tree Reading state information... Done Calculating upgrade... Done The following packages have been kept back: antix-goodies elogind gir1.2-polkit-1.0 gnome-mpv gparted libelogind0 libpam-elogind libpolkit-agent-1-0 libpolkit-backend-1-0 libpolkit-gobject-1-0 mtpaint policykit-1 0 upgraded, 0 newly installed, 0 to remove and 12 not upgraded.But when I run synaptic and click “Reload” and then “Mark all Upgrades”, synaptic wants to upgrade a lot of software.
To be removed: libpam-elogind-compat libpolkit-backend-1-0 To be installed: celluloid gifsicle gparted-common libgtkmm-3.0-1v5 linpolkit-goobkect-elogind-1-0 netcat netcat-traditional To be upgraded antix-goodies elogind gir1.2-polkit-1.0 gnome-mpv gparted libelogind0 libpam-elogind libpolikit-agent-1-0 libpolkit-gobject-1-0 polickykit-1why is there a difference between synaptic and apt-get?
Does anyone have a recommendation on how to proceed?
Should I go ahead with the changes proposed by Synaptic?
Or do nothing?- This topic was modified 3 years ago by RobK88.

::Use
apt-get dist-upgradePhilosophers have interpreted the world in many ways; the point is to change it.
antiX with runit - leaner and meaner.

::Thanks. That worked.
I did not realize that the Synaptic Package Manager would attempt to do a dist-upgrade.
I thought it would just try to do something like a “sudo apt-get upgrade”.Thanks again.
