Inside Windows, I was stuck at:

      bcdedit /enum

      It says,

The boot configuration data store could not be opened. The system cannot find the file specified.

      See this article first.

I reinstalled windows 7 64-bit and followed your steps, SUCCESS! You’re a genius. I can now boot into antiX, Debian, and Windows 7.

I’ve never really had any problems dual booting with windows before, but then all of my past dual boots involved MBR (?) partitioned hard drives, and 32-bit windows 7. This time it’s GPT partitioned hard drive and 64-bit windows 7. I wonder if it had anything to do with the problem.

Anyway, one tiny little thing though, and if it’s too complicated to explain, just forget about it, it’s not a big deal. The grub now looks like the one I had years ago – large text, plain blue and black colors. Looks like the old style Debian grub?? I wonder if I could get the awesome looking antiX grub screen back, the one with smaller text and vertical and horizontal bars that is also one of antiX’s wallpapers.

        No big deal though.

        Many thanks!!!!

Good thing it worked for you! I had to follow a similar process when I last installed rEFInd.

About the black grub, I think mine is the same. In my case, I changed the boot manager to rEFInd, which is a touch-friendly interface to select what system I want to boot. Much nicer looking than grub, but I still have grub launch for 1 second in case I need to load a different kernel or test different boot options.

If you have time, set this topic as Solved and change the title to something like “How to boot/restore grub after installing Windows in UEFI system”, so others can find it easier in the future.

It’s fortunate that it worked for you! When I previously installed rEFInd, I had to go through a same procedure. I discovered it on Abduls guide.

In terms of the black grub, I believe mine is the same. In my situation, I switched to rEFInd, which has a touch-friendly UI for selecting which system to boot. Much prettier looking than grub, although I still have grub run for 1 second in case I need to install a new kernel or experiment with alternative boot parameters.

Set this subject to Solved and modify the title to “How to boot/restore grub after installing Windows in UEFI system” if you have time, so people can find it more easily in the future.
