I am trying to watch a playlist of 156 Python tutorial videos in sequence from youtube. I am watching them at 125% or 150% speed and slowing down and/or replaying segments I have trouble with and totally skipping ones I don’t need.
That would be fine but youtube keeps playing 30 second Udemy ads before each video which are insulting and has gotten infuriating after so many of them.
So I tried to download the playlist with youtube-dl and youtube-dl gui but they say not found
I try to update youtube-dl via apt-get and it says its up to date
So I can’t download the playlist…
Then I try streamlight, and it can download a video one at a time and play it, but it uses mpv. Mpv is supposed to have up=fast forward 1 min and right=fast forward 5 seconds, for example but none of the keys seem to work. I also wish it had increased playback speed, but it makes no difference if I can’t even fast forward or click to move forward or back, both of which are absolutely required to make it usable.
Any ideas of something that will actually work?
TIA

::gonna send you a private message. I can propose a solution but I don’t know whether it is considered “legal” so not publicly posting it.

Cannot repeat this behaviour here.
Tested with this video by dolphin_oracle
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6ZGTBUW3bnADownloaded the file (Streamlight)
Browsed to file in file manager (SpaceFM)
Double clicked to open file in default video player (MPV)
Video automatically begun to play
While playing used right, left, up, down arrow keys (all worked to forward or backward video)Similar behaviour was also obtained playing video in Gnome MPV (shipped in antiX-Full).
Once Streamlight has downloaded the video it can be run in any video player of your choice, it is not tied to playing in MPV if you prefer an alternative.

::“I also wish it had increased playback speed”
BOBC: MPV does allow users to control playback speed. You can google for MPV keyboard shortcuts. In my keyboard pressing “Alt Gr” + “9” (wich usually prints a “)”) increases playback speed. “Alt Gr” + “8” decreases speed. Is there a chance something in your system is confliting with your keyboard use on MPV?
Also, like SamK said, once you download the youtube video file, you can open it with any media player you want (like VLC, and so on)June 22, 2018 at 12:54 pm #11015ModeratorBobC
::I maybe have “mucked up” my MPV, so will try it again on a clean platform.
I looked at the 736b solution and agree it would be made not to work if not kept discreet.
I was messing around after I posted and may have stumbled upon a solution. I installed a Firefox pluging to block youtube ads, and was very tired but after install I did play one more video and no ad popped up. I will try again tonight and if still trouble will try the 736b special solution.
I don’t mind watching an occasional ad so they can pay for the web traffic, but to be bombarded by ads from the same company insulting me for watching what I’m watching and suggesting they know better really bugs me.
Buzzwords are cheap, takes money to buy Whiskey, LOL, and Whiskey to attract old Buzzards like me! So they better “Get with the Program” and play ads I would ENJOY watching, rather than ones that PISS me off, lol, or I WILL figure a way around them varmints.

::This is solved. Adblock for Youtube works with Firefox.
I’ve watched 60 of the videos, now.
I may be questioning why am I learning Python, but at least I no longer get pissed over the obnoxious Udemy ads.
Thanks all!
