Hallo everybody ! My last video monitor (4/3 CRT) passed away, thus I had to get a new, 21.5″ 16/9 LCD flat pannel,
“Philips 223VSLHSB2” screen. Had to calculate manual “modelines” & manually edit “xorg.conf” cause for some reason this system did not out-of-the-box drive the new monitor properly :=( Maybe it’s to do with the Winishoffer (spell ?) driver. Well,
Long story short, it does work with the proper modelines, is running the monitor at its native 1920×1080 pixels 60 Hz resolution – a much MUCH better outcome than in the “other”, proprietary OS from Redmond which is absolutely untweakable. But back to AntiX, here’s the current output from inxi -G :

Graphics: Card: Silicon Integrated Systems [SiS] 661/741/760 PCI/AGP or 662/761Gx PCIE VGA Display Adapter
      Display Server: X.Org 1.16.4 driver: N/A
      Resolution: 1920×1080@60.00hz
GLX Renderer: Gallium 0.4 on llvmpipe (LLVM 3.5, 128 bits)
      GLX Version: 3.0 Mesa 10.3.2
      _____________________________________________________________________

Now the question : I have the display driven stably at the proper resolution, geometry and frequency, but the COLORS
are just awful – not the right shades, too very much washed out, Do we have an app for setting/tweaking colors, lighting, contrast, all those things (gamma… ?) I couldn’t find it in Control pannel or the other menus, maybe it’s just me.

      Thanks in advance !

Do you have a manual for the monitor to adjust settings on the monitor itself?

        Frequently Asked Questions
Can I change the color setting of my monitor?

Yes, you can change your color setting through the OSD control by using the following procedures:

Press “OK” to show the OSD (On Screen Display) menu

Press the down arrow to select the “Color” option, then press “OK” to enter the color setting. There are three settings, as detailed below.

Color Temperature: The two settings are 6500K and 9300K. With settings in the 6500K range, the panel appears “warm, with a red-white color tone,” while a 9300K temperature gives off a “cool, blue-white tone.”

sRGB: This is a standard setting to ensure the correct exchange of colors between different devices (e.g. digital cameras, monitors, printers, scanners etc)

User Defined: The user can choose his/her preferred color setting by adjusting the red, green and blue color.

Do you have a manual for the monitor to adjust settings on the monitor itself?

Yes I do. I tried upping the “gamma” from default 2.2 to 2.6 (the maximum offered on the monitor’s OSD)
and it is slightly better but still not “there”. i also have attempted to set the gamma by software,
using “xrandr”, but this function does not seem to work (possibly not supported by the unmaintained driver
          for SiS graphics).

Under windows 7, although as mentioned there are OTHER problems ( Windoze cannot be persuaded to support the native resolution and aspect ratio) on the other hand, the colors appear bright and rendered faithfully, the fonts are crisp and readable even though the picture has to be interpolated, and that is without touching the on-screen display controls)

Edit : The “sRGB” setting does seem to give better results, too. Thank you for suggesting that I should experiment with
          built-in on screen settings.

            Between SIS graphics chip and

            driver: N/A

Houstin. We have a problem. try

            inxi -Fxxx

            instead of inxi -G.

Sis chips are a pain the butt. Sorry. But true.Just a late night guess before I go to bed. You might have to work with the Vesa driver during install. There is a F key option during the install process during the initial grub screen.

You could try installing the xf86-video-sisimedia-antix deb

Philosophers have interpreted the world in many ways; the point is to change it.

antiX with runit - leaner and meaner.
